TSH normal

Has anyone had normal TSH and told all normal and then found out through private or more tests that they have thyroid issues? If TSH was normal what made you pursue more tests please?

In order to resolve this concern a full thyroid test is the way forward.

TSH

FT4

FT3

Vit D

Vit B12

Folate

Ferritin

Antibodies

It's unlikely that a GP will do this so many of us test privately.

When you have these lab results come back, post them here, and experienced members will advise.

When medics say "normal" they just mean the result sits within the lab range, this does not give the full picture of how your thyroid is functioning. Only an FTTwill do that.

We are all different with different hormone level needs and we aim for labs that coincide with our feeling well again....ie treatment optimal for each of us as an individual. Reliance on TSH ( a pituitary hormone) will not help do that. FT3 is the important number....T3 is the active thyroid hormone. T4 is the storage hormone which is converted to T3 in various tissues in the body. For good health T3 is required in almost every cell in the body in an adequate and constant supply.

The bottom line is that it depends on your symptoms and how you feel!

If you feel rubbish you need full testing!

Good luck.

You never take the results of the tests as providing the information when the most important point when swallowing tablets for thyroid hormones is how 'you feel', i.e. an improvement overall or are you still symptomatic.

Did he not test both Free T4 and Free T3? Probably not. The TSH is from the pituitary gland and I don;t know why they seem not to have any idea how problematic clinical symptoms are for the patient

Did you do the usual routine for blood draw i.e. The earliest possible , fasting (you can drink water) and if your were taking thyoid hormone replacements, you'd allow a 24 hour gap between the last dose and the test.

Not fasting. No one told me that. Done 9am. I’m not on any thyroid meds.

I am aware GPs will not test more than TSH initially. You could get a home blood test - and I'll give you a link just in case you might consider this. You can tick off your symptoms:-
