I am curious if anyone is taking selenium and do you find it benefits you in any way?

Selenium any help?
I think quite a few people on this forum take selenium. You might find this info useful :
People often take about 200mcg of selenium per day as a supplement. I couldn't tolerate that much for very long and reduced dose to 100mcg per day. I've been fine with that amount, but like almost all my supplements I do take a break from taking individual supplements every so often.
For suggestions on the best type of selenium supplement to get, see the first reply in this thread from SeasideSusie :

Sadly, selenium testing is very expensive [and I've never had it done] :
I'm eating Brazil nuts that are high in selenium.... I find they are quite tasty.
I’ve added it to my vitamins lists to take as my diet isn’t good before thyroid (other health issues) but when I do eat. I stick to fish and chicken and fresh veg. I had Covid in September and still getting long Covid with heart and GI issues, so sticking to clean food and boosting all my vitamins
I forgot to say that since my diagnosis 16 months ago. I’ve not been given anything but levo. Which I can’t take. And my TSH was 39 on my last test. So on no treatment and my GP doesn’t even contact me. So boosted all my vitamins and still looking for answers
I eat high selenium Brazil nuts. Going to get selenium tested in a few weeks so really interested to see what my levels are based on this.
Let us know! I eat brazil nuts too - apparently 1/day is sufficient.
This is what I am wondering. So going to eat them as normal and see what the test says. I normally eat 2-4 a day with my vitamin D drops. 😐
I just got the results - 133 ug/L (53-105) so seems you get plenty enough from brazils!!! (they are high selenium fair trade ones from sainsburys)
So 2-4/day brazil nuts does the business for selenium? Hooray.
These are the super high content ones tho. Unless they say how much selenium is inside then they might be far far lower.
Shop carefully. Thank you for the info and for keeping us posted.

The packaging needs to say "Grown in selenium rich soil" and preferably the area and possibly the amount of selenium. Doesn't have to be organic unless that's important to you, check the amount of selenium per serving on the pack.
If you are in the UK the following may help, information given to me by members of the forum:
Apparently Sainsburys SO organic brazil nuts contain 50mcg selenium per 30g serving of nuts
sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/pro...
and their Fairtrade ones have 75mcg selenium per 30g serving
sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/pro...
One member has said that M&S Natural Brazil Nuts say "harvested by hand in the Amazon forest and naturally high in selenium".
Also, check out Aldi's "The Foodie Market" Brazil nuts, the packaging is said to show selenium content as 79mcg per 30g serving.
Another one is 'My Garden of Eden' Brazil nuts from Home Bargains.. They say "High in Selenium and high in vitamin E" on the front of the packet and the Nutritional Information says "one serving (25g) gives 63ug of Selenium".
I’ve read that if your T4 is in the normal range but T3 is low that indicates a selenium deficiency
