hi guys, i want to start taking selenium as i am reading different threads and alot of people are supplementing with this. As you know i have hashis and also cealiac.

Judging by this post and discussion thread about excess selenium, it looks sensible to adopt the low level supplement approach that you're considering: healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

This web page give you some information about recommended amounts for different age groups. According to the below website the full amount for an adult is 400mcg daily but if you supplement then you would need to take into account that you could get some selenium through your food. 200mcg are generally advised as a supplement on this forum.

Hi nanaedake, just concerned about taking 200mg dose thought i would start with 90mgs as all the warnings with it.x

I stated 200mcg (micrograms) that is much less than 200mg (milligrams). You are suggesting 90mgs which is much greater than 200mcg.

Hope that makes sense? If you want to start low you could take less and take 100mcg daily.

You could get your selenium level tested first through medichecks then you would know if you needed a boost or not. 100mcg is a maintenance dose so should be fine. Once you supplement it would effect blood tests so you won't have a baseline.

That is a good ldea, i have read on this site alot of people take it to help the thyroid but must admit abit wary of taking it now as i have read more about it causing breathing issues, cancer, etc. It is naturally found in liver, brazil nuts tuna etc, i do eat these. Im going to get a medicheck done 1st and see whats what.

Didnt understand by it effecting blood results so i wont have a baseline? 😊

Why not get it naturally from your food:

Thankyou jeanjeanie50 for sending link i found that really useful as it tells you how much to have daily. I do eat eggs, brazil nuts, lambs liver i find beef liver a little bitter.chicken, spinach i love eating raw. I must admit im a little wary of the supplements and i could try and eat extra of these foods but sadly i wont be eating the sardines, aghh!!😨😨 yak. Ha.
