Blood test results

Hi

I wrote on here a few weeks ago about thinking I was hypo due to taking my thyroxine with tea. I have now spent three weeks taking it properly and don't feel any better, still very fatigued.

However, yesterday I was admitted to hospital (with atrial fibrillation which I am prone to, perhaps triggered by covid jab 12 hours previously ?). Anyway, plus side was I now have very up-to-date blood results! And to my amazement I think this shows I am overmedicated. I did wonder why my tachycardia had got worse in the previous three weeks! Probably didn't help the afib either....

TSH is 0.08

Free T4 was 21.8

Free T3 was 5.7

So I assume my GP will now reduce my meds. In fact, I took 100 mcg this morning instead of my usual 125mcg. How long do you reckon it will the levels take to reduce to something better?

Thank you for any guidance. My GP has always kept the levels on the high side of normal as otherwise I feel rubbish, but not usually this high....!!

Was this test done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test?

What’s the range on Ft4 and Ft3

Recommend you also test vitamin D, folate , ferritin and B12 levels too at next test

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Do you always get same brand of levothyroxine

You need to retest full thyroid and vitamin levels in 6-8 weeks

Suggest you initially reduce dose only alternate days. 100mcg/125mcg. This gives 12.5mcg drop daily

Also take magnesium, multivit and bit D. Latter two on alternate days. Thanks

Sorry, sent this earlier but internet crashed.

Ranges were:

TSH 0.08 range 0.35 to 5.5 mU/L

T4 21.8 (10.5 to 21 pmol/L

T3 5.7 (3.5 to 6.5 pmol/L)

Bloods taken about 11am to 12 pm yesterday.

Thyroxine taken about 7 am I think.

No food or drink since evening before.

Thank you

Hi there, did you take your Levo at 7am on the morning of your blood test?

I think it was about 7, yes.

Ok, the protocol people on this forum use is to not take your Levo until after your blood test. Try to get your bloods taken as early as you can,and take your Levo when you return home. Nothing to eat or any coffee/tea before blood test, just drink water.

Ok thank you. Would that explain why I look a little overdosed?

Yes quite possibly Jajarunner. If you take the Levo after your blood tests each time then they will be more of an accurate picture. No need to inform your GP of this, its just a little tip from the forum. It's up to you how you take your Levo, some people take it at bedtime as it suits them.
