I see you posted some thyroid results a couple of weeks ago
TSH- 2.98miu/l normal 0.27- 4.2
free t3- 5.55 pmol/l normal= 3.1-6.8
FREE THYROXINE- 18.2 pmol/l normal 12- 22
Your levels (ft4 & ft3) are healthy.
Your TSH is higher than most healthy level. Most have around 1. A rising TSH might mean your thyroid is struggling to keep up. Doctors often don’t treat until it reaches 10 and the thyroid is really struggling with low thyroid levels.
Your levels need monitoring.
If you have positive TPO & TG antibodies it will indicate if you have Hashimotos or auto immune thyroiditis & a doctor might start you on medication earlier. Doctor unlikely to agree to test for antibodies unless a level is abnormal. There are private testing options .
Nodules are very common even in those without thyroid dis-function. Doctors do not routinely scan unless you have breathing, swallowing or voice issues. If you develop any of these keep pressing for a scan.
You should be sent for a scan for certain. When I had a slight swelling my GP sent me immediately despite the fact my thyroid was destroyed by radiation over sixty years previously.
My “” shrivelled up currant” sized thyroid was the smallest the consultant had ever seen and he questioned me why I was there. Apparently I should have been firmer with the GP explaining the extent of the damage to my thyroid before being sent for a scan. He did point out arthritis was causing swelling and that at my age that wasn’t particularly unusual. I am very lucky and grateful to the GP for caring. I was embarrassed but the GP was unrepentant she was determined I had needed a scan. Embarrassment passed but a growth would have been alarming. Just be firm when you next speak. Good luck
Hi ge7521 Sorry to jump on here 4 months later, I was just wondering what happened? Have you still got the lump or did it go?
Im a nervous wreck as I have a lump on the front of my neck slightly to the right, about the size of a ping pong ball. It can clearly be seen. I went to the doctors on Tues who said she was doing an urgent 2 week referral to the head and neck department to be checked as its possibly thyroid cancer.
I haven't had the call for the appointment yet and I can't think about anything else.
So just searching peoples story and driving myself mad!
