So Iāve been on the same T3 dose for months now with few issues.
I also take progesterone cream and the only time things have gone awry is if Iāve stopped it. It clearly has a big effect on T3 absorption for me.
Stupidly, I recently tried pregnenolone as I suffer still from muscle fatigue and weakness. It wasnāt a good idea as it mustāve pushed up my estrogen giving me really full boobs if nothing else!
Now, around 6 weeks later Iām really struggling. I havenāt done bloods as itās the weekend but since Thursday Iāve been feeling as though my T3 has gone through the floor. The muscle weakness it at an all time high, and Iām having those horrible flaky periods with heart racing, anxiety, shakiness etc. My long-standing frozen shoulder is back and Iām also not sleeping well.
Help! Is this still high estrogen? Iāve done nothing else and only used the pregnenolone for the couple weeks at the end of my cycle as prescribed. How do I combat this? I can take more T3 but in a few days Iāll have the āoverā symptoms. It just feels as though itās not working.
What to do?

iām no expert as iāve said before, i started on progesterone cream too, and iāve noticed signs of over medication ( i take NDT). i am still trying to work out how to balance things, and sadly canāt afford to keep testing hormones ( paying for ndt, progesterone cream and thyroid/vitamin testing has left me totally skint!)have you had your progesterone & oestrogen tested? could you leave off the pregenolene ? this is just a guess from what you have written but could you have increased oestrogen and thatās made oestrogen dominance worse?
did you have oestrogen dominance before you started on progesterone cream?
iām desperate to find a forum that specialises in female hormones as iām worried, like you, about how my sex hormones interact with thyroid/hashimotos too
Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I shouldāve said I only used the preg for about three weeks and by the time of my period I wasnāt keen on the crazy big boobs so I didnāt restart it!
Interestingly it doesnāt seem to have made things worse (apart from the above). I used to have extreme pain at the start of my period which was why I knew I had dominance to begin with. More recently Iāve been having more pain around ovulation and this didnāt happen last time. I also hadnāt really noticed until it came back, that my muscle weakness had gone - yay! So it must have been doing something positive but to be honest Iām not game for having it lower my T3. I feel absolutely awful just now and Iām not sure how long Iām looking at suffering. Do I need to wait a few cycles before it drops again and allows my T3 to pick up? I bloody hope not!
The reason I tried the preg was because I felt the pg cream had made my hormones more level again (I did do a test which showed estrogen fine, and testosterone really low, deficient in fact. I didnāt do pg because I was using the cream so it wouldnāt been a false level). Apart from the muscle weakness I am well now but Iāve lost so much muscle strength that Iām keen to find a way to replace this - Iām only 43 so a long time to need those muscles yet.
I hear what you say about the hormone interaction. When I stopped using the pg cream my thyroid levels plummeted - though not as badly as now! So I made a mental note to keep up the pg cream for as long as I can.
I think I need to go and see a gp now and get my levels checked again. Iām not sure what the options are though if estrogen makes this much negative difference. Iād be happy if I could get the testosterone up and stay with the pg cream, I think that would get me where I need to be, but I donāt know if this solution exists.
There is a huge interaction clearly, and this isnāt something I think gpās appreciate for sure - maybe the occasional endo but even then.
Iāll let you know what I find out going forward!
Interesting. Now that you mention it, a couple of times over the few weeks I took it I did feel overmedicated. I had a few heart-racey moments that I couldnāt really explain. That would be it then!
So Iām guessing now Iām almost getting a double whammy. Now Iāve stopped (though I would have according to cycle anyway) my levels will be dropping AND Iāve got the higher estrogen to cope with.
I feel better today but yesterday was a wipe out. Lying in bed or the sofa day. I havenāt done that in a long time.
I suspect there was a point in there where the pregnenolone did help as for the first time in ages my muscle weakness disappeared, but it must have been a very narrow band.
I stopped completely for the moment anyway, Iāll go back to just the pg cream as I was pretty good with my T3 and that.
Ugh, hormones. Theyāre a proper pain in the ass!
webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingre... It Seems to be used as another one size might fit all thing to a large degree! But it does have it's uses it's also produced naturally by the body to which it probably deaminises as we age.
One of the other hormones that rarely see/hear mentioned with females is testosterone it's one of the three essential hormones if too low causes many issues.
Was Scoffed at by the Medicals on females but without it you can't have Children for one same as males with Estrogen.
There was an older lady given some well after a while she wouldn't take it any more!.........
