Iodine should only be taken if you are deficient as determined by a blood test. Very large doses of iodine used to be used in the old days to fight hyperthyroidism. Also, iodine deficiency is a major cause of hypothyroidism in the undeveloped world. Basically having more iodine than you need is unpredictable, it can cause excess thyroid activity and too little.
That could very much be true, iodine deficiency is a major cause of goitre worldwide. I'm not sure about hyperthyroidism though but if you have moderate iodine supplementation it should be fine, nothing to lose and perhaps will resolve goitre. I would ask for your iodine levels to be checked, it's equally possible the goitre is due to thyroiditis which is causing your hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).
