Do you have recent results from BEFORE starting on Carbimazole

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common

Ask GP to test vitamin levels

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

If TPO or TG thyroid antibodies are high this is usually due to Hashimoto’s (commonly known in UK as autoimmune thyroid disease). You can have slightly raised with Graves’ disease too

Gluten intolerance is often a hidden issue to.

Hot nodules

healthline.com/health/thyro...

If your nodule is hot, or overproducing thyroid hormones, your endocrinologist will probably use radioactive iodine or surgery to eliminate the nodule. If you’ve been experiencing symptoms of hyperthyroidism, this should resolve your symptoms. If too much of your thyroid is destroyed or removed in the process, you may need to take synthetic thyroid hormones on an ongoing basis.

As an alternative to radioactive iodine or surgery, your endocrinologist may try to treat a hot nodule by giving you thyroid-blocking medications.

I suspect you are becoming hypothyroid due to a little too much carbimazole. Try taking magnesium citrate and perhaps holding a tablet under your tongue when you start bloating (but don't exceed the dose or you will get diarrhoea).

Yep, made me feel crap, specially the first month of two, had terrible bloating and sorry to say made me pretty constipated for a while too. Will say it does take time for your body to get used to the medication and alter itself so bare with it. Best advice is listen to your body, you know it best, if you think you need a lower or higher dose mention it to your consultant and don't budge

Thankyou so much for your reply ,yes I am finding the tablets are making me constipated. If I may ask before you started medication did you feel any sensations in the rectum area and did you have bloating. ? I am not sure if there is something else going on.

Yes I did only for about one month before my consultant said my T3 had gone just over range for first time.I was offered RAI few years ago which I declined so I was being monitored .I felt ok up till then but now feel really unwell with fatigue and bloating.

You've been on carbimazole for several years?

What happened to the Hashimoto's diagnosis?

No ,I was on Carbimazole for a short period last year and they took me of them. I do not have Hashimotos, I have had a suppressed Tsh since I was 50 and my antibodies have been tested once and are ok. The only time Hashimotos was mentioned was back in 2017 I saw a Dr.Simon Morley in London to see if I could have P.E.I ablation of my nodule. After he did the ultrasound he said he couldn't because my thyroid was of a Hashimotos appearance.?? ( At the time I refused RAI and surgery ) . I have been monitored ever since but now my T3 is above range. Its a long story.
