Hello,

I’d like to ask if you would recommend a clinic/private endocrinologist in London, please.

I am on 125mcg Levothyroxine but haven’t had a blood test for a while and it seems my heart is giving me trouble last few days.

Best wishes for 2021!

Hi,My doctor just increased my tablets regardless of my feeling. It is important your doctor consider you how do you feel with your dose. The ignorant doctor had increased my tablet to 100 with lowest TSH and wanted to give me antidepressants tables to control my anxiety syndrome as he was telling I am depressed. I kept telling him how possibly I become depressed during that 2 month and I refused his idea and I said I won't take any tablets.

You know best about your body and you know how your body is , feeling good or bad. So you need to consider your symptoms and talk with your dc.

Another doctor listened to me by decreasing my tablets . Now I am one 5 days 50 and 2 days 62.5. I feel great, no feeling freezing. No anxiety, no pressure on my chest,no pain muscles.

But I try to keep my diet by not drinking tea and coffee, alcohol, raw vegetables like cauliflowers. I take nuts , sea food and resources of iodine.

Before considering seeing any thyroid specialist endocrinologist you need FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing

Do you always get same brand of levothyroxine

Which brand

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus antibodies and vitamins

Thriva Thyroid plus antibodies and vitamins By DIY fingerpick test

Thriva also offer just vitamin testing

Blue Horizon Thyroid Premium Gold includes antibodies, cortisol and vitamins by DIY fingerprick test

If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3

£29 (via NHS private service ) and 10% off down to £26.10 if go on thyroid uk for code

Also vitamin D available as separate test via MMH

Or alternative Vitamin D NHS postal kit

The aim of levothyroxine is to increase dose upwards until Ft4 is in top third of range and Ft3 at least half way through range (regardless of how low TSH is)

Very important to have optimal vitamin levels too as this helps reduce symptoms and improve how levothyroxine works

Previous posts from several years ago show really poor vitamin levels

Presumably you have to supplement virtually continuously to maintain optimal vitamin levels

Remember to stop taking any supplements that contain biotin a week before ALL BLOOD TESTS as biotin can falsely affect test results

As you have Hashimoto’s are you on strictly gluten free diet

Thank you very much for your extensive reply! At the moment, I am on a gluten-free diet but not on any supplements at the moment. I think I get different brands whatever is prepared at the pharmacy.

So likely you have low vitamin levels if not supplementing

Important to try to always get same brand of levothyroxine

Only do testing after 6-8 weeks on constant unchanging dose and brand of levothyroxine

Many people react very badly to Teva brand of levothyroxine

Though others (often if lactose intolerant) find Teva in best option
