I am looking for a reasonably priced alternative to thyroid S and not sure where to start. What is everyone else doing, Can anyone please recommend an NDT that is easily available and does not cost the earth and once you have sourced a new supply how do you know how much to take?

I doubt there is another NDT any more reasonably priced than Thyroid-S, raw material has been in short supply so that is the reason for price increases across all brands of NDT.
If anyone can help they will send you a private message as we can't discuss suppliers on the forum, so I will turn off replies so that no information is posted here.
