I have hypothyroid and taking 45mg of metavive. I have read on here that sometimes you can have hyperthyroidism. Could this be the cause of being dizzy and lightheaded and should I reduce my metavive. Thanks

Feeling hot dizzy and lightheaded

Your dizziness and lightheadedness could be anything.
If you are hypothyroid you can't possibly "sometimes be hyperthyroid". It is possible to fluctuate between hypothyroid and "false hyper" if you have autoimmune thyroid disease, known to patients as Hashimoto's. You would need to test thyroid antibodies to confirm this - Thyroid Peroxidase and Thyroglobulin antibodies. Have you ever had these tested?
Also, it's possible to be overmedicated.
I think the first thing you need to do is a thyroid function test - preferably the full panel to include TSh, FT4, FT3, Thyroid antibodies.
It's also useful to know your current vitamin levels so testing Vit D, B12, Folate and Ferritin is also important.
Hi MyraMetavive have changed their formula this year.
Previously Metavive I was 15mg per capsule, so I'm guessing that you were taking 3 of these capsules to make 45mg.
The new formula is 40mg per capsule because they have added something called nucleotides. See this page

I wonder if you were taking 3 capsules of the old Metavive I, then when you reordered you received the new Metavive I. They say that you should be able to continue using this just as you did before and I understand that it works that way for many people.
However for some of us it doesn't work that way. I had been on 5 capsules, but found that I appeared to be overdosed with 5 of the new capsules. It upset my stomach and gave me many hot flushes; I also found that I was putting on weight, when I'd had it under control before. I rang the sales people and was told to start low and work up, but that didn't work for me as I could only get up to 3 capsules without the unpleasant side effects, but 3 capsules didn't contain as much dessicated thyroid as I had been taking before and I became undermedicated.
Do you think that this could explain your symptoms?
Hi Anthea
Thanks for your reply. I have been taking the same amount of metavive since the addition of nucleotides, which happened a few months ago, so it seems strange that I am now feeling dizzy and light headed, but thanks for your advise
Gosh, I’m glad I read your post here. I’ve been taking the new formula since June and retested 6 weeks later and didn’t notice anything odd. However having just retested again. I’ve noticed my results are over range. I just couldn’t figure out why. I’ve been feeling far too hot aswell and didn’t make the connection. I was on 6 capsules and I’ve just dropped down to 5. Surely that should sort it but I’m quite concerned now and not sure it will. Who did you contact? Procepts or the Natural Choice?
I contacted The Natural Choice. The Procepts website gives them as the UK contact. The more that people contact them the better in my opinion.
One thing I didn't mention in my reply above was that due to Covid I've been taking my temperature on waking regularly since the March lockdown. When I was using the new Metavive my temp went down a bit - that and putting on weight are both signs of being undermedicated. I didn't immediately connect the two, but realised it later. Have you been putting on weight without changing your diet?
I tried to find out more about the ribonucleotides and followed the links they give, but it seemed to go round in circles and I didn't get anywhere. They say what it's not made from, but not what it is made from. I do feel that we are being used as guinea pigs, which I object to.
I've now changed over to an NDT, but I think it's taking time to clear the nucleotides from my system.
Metavive old style worked well for many of us. It's a great shame that it's not available any longer.
Hi myra18I can only tell you my experience, I had graves, hyperthyroidism, my thyroid was removed in 2019,the surgeon put me on 175mg Thyroxine T4, I still had hyper symptoms, hot, sweating, slight tremor, insomnia, I couldn't understand why as I had no thyroid so I should not be feeling like this unless I was still having problems with the antibodies, after 5 months I was still the same it was like my thyroid was still in my neck.. Due to me being lactose intolerant I was taken of T4 and put on lactose free T3 at 125mg still I had hyper symptoms 🤷♀️ turns out I was on to high a dose, I'm now on 10mg T3 split in to 5mg one in the morning one in the early evening, I'm better with the symptoms but still very hot at times and still have insomnia, taking to much can cause symptoms of overactivity I'm still struggling with the meds... Get my blood results soon so I can see what's going on... 💖
Hi birkie
Thanks for your reply. As Seaside Susie says I should get retested as it was a few years ago I was tested but in the meantime I think I will try reducing my dose of metavive and see what happens. Thanks for your advise
When I got up to 2 grains on NDT I started to get hot, dizzy and lightheaded so after a few weeks got my labs and sure enough I was over medicated. I felt like I had to sit down all the time and couldn't bend over without the dizziness, couldn't even dig a hole in my yard during the summer because I was too hot. I reduced my dose and felt so much better.
