Do you have a diagnosis of hyperthyroidism? Or Hypothyroidism?

What were your actual test results, can you post them along with their reference ranges, it's not possible to comment without seeing the results.

I went to a ER they did blood test but they just said they were a little low they didnt tell me what my levels were , then they told me to get proper diagnosis from a primary care doctor

In the UK (this is a UK based forum so the majority of members are in the UK) we ask for them and are legally entitled to a copy. I don't know the situation in your country which I presume is the US.

If you go to your primary care doctor like the ER suggested then you will probably have further tests, ask for a full thyroid panel to include TSH, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies.

In hyperthyroidism people usually have the following test results :

Very low TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), very high Free T4 and Free T3.

In Hypothyroidism people usually have the following test results :

High or very high TSH, and low or very low Free T4 and Free T3.

So when doctors say that someone has "low thyroid levels" it is impossible to know what they mean. Do they mean low TSH (suggesting the patient may be hyperthyroid), or low T4 and T3 (suggesting the patient may be hypothyroid)? Without results nobody can tell.

Well, if that is the case then you need proper testing and treatment. There are several causes of hyperthyroidism and you really need to know which one you might have because it makes a difference to treatments available and likely outcome.

Just make sure that you DON'T agree to have your thyroid removed or your thyroid killed off with Radioactive Iodine (RAI). You should exhaust all other possibilities for treatment before removing or destroying your thyroid.

Some people can put hyperthyroidism into remission. But you need to know what you are doing, and so do your doctors.

You should make use of the website and forum on this link :

And although this forum on HU has more people with hypothyroidism than hyperthyroidism there are also a fair number of members with hyperthyroidism who you could find helpful.

Hi Chase

Depending on which thyroid test it was that was low, it could be hyper or hypo (that’s an overactive thyroid or an under active thyroid). The symptoms can be strangely similar considering you’d expect them to be at opposite ends of the spectrum.

But looking at your previous posts, I think it’s quite possible you’re under active. You may have an enlarged thyroid which could be the thing you’re feeling in your throat. And cold hands are a sign of hypothyroidism. Both hyper and hypothyroidism can leave you feeling mega anxious—so this might actually be the cause of your recent anxiety.

It’s good news that something’s been spotted on a blood test, now it’s a question of waiting to see your GP to see which variety of thyroid issue you might be brewing. Hope you get some answers soon, take care.

Thanks and i think it was a CBC test to be exact but it confused me because the only symptom i have is throat tightness but it dosent start until about 3 to 4 hours after i wake up and a gassy stomach
