Basically, I would say no, there's nothing herbal you can take that will help with hypothyroidism. What's more, you have to be very careful with herbs, because some could make your symptoms worse.

I would think that the best thing to do, if you can, is get private testing done. The tests you need are:

TSH

FT4

FT3

TPO antibodies

Tg antibodies

vit D

B12

folate

ferritin

If you are hypo - and it is possible to be hypo with a low TSH - then optimal nutrients are very important, and deficiencies could be adding to your symptoms. So, if you get any low results, you need to supplement to bring levels up.

No point in testing rT3. It is a very expensive test, and doesn't give you any more information than you can get from the above list of tests. What's more, high rT3 is not the problem it's sometimes made out to be. It doesn't cause symptoms, so not worth bothering with.

Once you get the results for all those tests, come back and let's have a look at them - don't forget to give the ranges. Then, people might be able to make more helpful suggestions.

Ok so is a 1.21 TSH something to worry about? Is that a normal reading. I do have a multinodular goiter but I don’t know if that mean hypo or hyper

It's a very normal reading. The problem is that a TSH reading by itself doesn't give you much information about your thyroid status. You do need the other tests done if you have a goiter - especially the antibodies. A goitre can form for all sorts of reasons. It can be hypo or hyper, or due to iodine deficiency, to. due to an autoimmune thyroid disease, or eating too much cabbage. But, it's highly unlikely that you are hyper, because if you were, your TSH would be more like zero.

I would definitely recommend you have private tests for thyroid & key vitamins. I use Medichecks & the costs are sometimes discounted on Thursdays. Please don’t supplement without testing key vitamins first. Many of us with thyroid problems feel better when ferritin, folate & Vit D are higher in range. If you post your results on this forum, you will receive great advice from the administrators and members far more knowledgeable than I!

Taking magnesium has really helped my anxiety too. There are many types to choose from; I use magnesium glycinate as it’s gentle on the stomach. Mindfulness has also helped me greatly/ I would recommend the Mark Williams/ Danny Penman Mindfulness CD or App.

Hi Valm1965

Good advice from others here.

Having recently had adrenal problems on top of hypothyroidism and PA, I found crippling anxiety one of the most difficult symptoms to explain.

I'd given up trying to convince my surgery to to test cortisol after given the runaround, causing frustration/more stress, and eventually consulted a local, very well qualified and experienced herbalist, recommended by a friend.

I'm amazed how quickly I began to feel better on herbal adrenal tonic!

Best wishes

I’ve been taking 500mg organic gelatinised Macca root caps which has helped my thyroid a lot and has numerous other benefits which will take too long to mention now so I suggest Googling it. The best I’ve ever felt for the last 25yrs of hypothyroidism!

Apparently yellow Maca is better suited to hypothyroidism but you can get a combination of different Maca in one capsule so just do the research and read people’s reviews All the best 😊
