Advice Please ....Run out of T3, have some outdated Tiromel, should I take whilst waiting for my prescription?

Hi - I am in a bit of a panic! I have accidentally run out of my T3 which I am currently on a trial and getting via my GP. I have ordered some more but it says they won’t be ready for a couple of days, I will ring and chase in the morning.

I’m taking Mercury Pharma 10mcg am and 10mcg pm. I take my 1st dose at 5.30am.

I bought some Tiromel online a good while ago but never took it, I still have it but the expiry is 05/2020 and the tablets are 25mcg.

Do you think it would be ok to take them as a temporary measure? I would need to cut in half and shave a little off.

I’m wondering if anyone else has ever taken outdated Tiromel ?

I’m afraid I will be unwell with no T3 for a few days!

Looking for opinions

Many Thanks 🙏

Yes better to take it, than miss two days

Many people say timorel isn’t as strong as others, so you may be fine with taking as half tablet

Thank you, the Drs are getting me an emergency prescription so that’s good of them. I wasn’t sure about the strength so will take one now.

Thanks very much for replying 😊

Won’t let that happen again!!

I've taken expired Tiromel lots of time. It still works.

Thankyou 🙂

I was thinking if I should just start using the Tiromel and save my in date MP just so it doesn’t go to waste. I know ideally I shouldn’t switch between brands but now I’m finally taking T3 it seems a shame to waste it... I have my 1st appt in Jan with Endo following my trial so wondering if it would matter if I take Tiromel from now or stay on MP and use up the Tiromel afterwards - ant thoughts?

That's my logic too - it seems a shame to waste it since it is so hard to get hold of.

I would take the older packets. Obviously I can't say whether or not it will affect your results. If anything, I might expect expired tiromel to reduce your TSH slightly less than something up-to-date, and might reduce your Free T3 slightly. But this is just a guess.

Well if it reduces my TSH then that would be a good thing when seeing the Endo as she mentioned she will be monitoring that - next obstacle to overcome!! Well seems worth a go 👍

I had a brain fart - a weaker pill would keep your TSH higher than a stronger pill.

I didn't sleep well last night.

Sorry!

No it was me... I meant increases!! I am not aware that I had a brain fart last night but clearly it’s possible I did too!! 😂
