Problems with T3

Yesterday morning, I started on a new batch of T3, the packaging states they are made by Sanofi-Aventis (I’ve attached a photo). My previous batch were by SigmaPharm. By yesterday lunchtime I felt pretty unwell, it’s hard to explain how but a bit nauseous and very wiped out. I have been in bed since and when I get up, I feel like I need to sit down pretty quickly. I’m certain it’s not a bug because I’m more or less shielding and no one else in my family has been ill. So I wonder if it could be the brand of T3. Does anyone have experience of this?

You surprise me there! Recently Sanofi-Aventis had manufacturing problems with their Cynomel liothyronine product. Hence there were shortages of it in France. Is that the product you have received?

We do have a few members who take Sanofi-Aventis Cynomel. Hopefully you will receive responses from some of them.

I’m not sure if it’s the same as you mention. I’ve attached a photo to my post to help.

Ah! They used to just put Sanofi Deutschland on Henning Thybon! (Or I think they did... :-) )

SigmaPharm make tablets in 5, 25 and 50 micrograms. But Henning Thybon is 20 micrograms. Has your dose changed?

No I haven’t. I’m on 10mcg. But it worked out £200 plus to buy 5 mcg and take 2 daily for 3 months, or £60 to buy 20mcg and cut them in half. Hence the change in brands, because of costing less. But it looks like the ingredients are quite different so I’m wondering if it could be that. According to Roseway who I got them from, I have taken the 20mcg brand previously though. Thank you so much for your help.

That is quite a price difference!

I hope those with experience respond soon. :-)

Thank you. I know, it felt silly to pay that much more but now I wonder if it was the right decision.

That’s the brand I take. My endo said that it was more widely tolerated.I can react badly to some meds (can’t take generic Sumatriptan), but this Thybon Henning I’m fine with.

I take 5mcg twice a day.

Thank you. Can I ask when you last got some?

Lovecake profile image
Lovecake in reply toSpangle15

All this year. Last prescription was in October. Next prescription going to be requested in about 10 days. Not expecting any change. My 50mcg tablets from them are Accord.

Spangle15 profile image

Thank you. Maybe I’ll give it another few days, perhaps it’s just a coincidence I feel unwell.

Lovecake in reply toSpangle15

Sorry, thought I was replying to another post 🤪I last received Thybon from Germany in September.

(You must have wondered what the heck Accord 50 was)

I’ve been on the same brand of T3 for 3 years.

Do you split your dose? If you don’t, it might be worth trying that.

Spangle15 profile image
Spangle15 in reply toLovecake

No I don’t anymore. The logistics of supplements and eating and other meds make it difficult. I’ve basically gone from taking 2 x 5mcg in the morning to half of 20mcg so I’ve not changed doseage, just brand.

Lovecake profile image
Lovecake in reply toSpangle15

It’s all rather complicated isn’t it? I know my husband sometimes rolls his eyes at my routines. I have to do it all just right or I get all messed up and feel rough. I hope it calms down for you and you can tolerate the new tablets. 🙂
