Stress test results

TheOtherSpellman profile image

I’ve gotten these results back this morning. Looks fab but I’d love some input just to put my mind at rest. I’ve been under loads of stress recently so was surprised that these didn’t come back higher in range.

Can some reassure me I’m good before I file them? :) thanks!

Yes they look OK at 1st glance, all comfortably in range (though a graphical representation easier to comment on). I think only sustained and chronic stress is a major issue.

To be honest, things have been pretty high stress since January so I was surprised for it to come back low.

My brother in law died in Feb, I found a lump on my thyroid the same day. Been waiting for a date for a hemithyroidectomy since March but with COVID it’s all been postponed so that’s an ongoing worry.

I’m juggling home life with my work life which means the two jobs I have and the uni work I have too.

My youngest has ASD so we have ongoing challenges associated with that and my eldest daughter was diagnosed with Tourette’s on the day this was taken.

Maybe I’m just a lot better at managing it all than I give myself credit for. I tend to get hives and stuff in stressful situations but then just feel sleepy after it’s settled.

Just an update - I was diagnosed with Lupus at the end of last week. I mentioned these tests and possible adrenal insufficiency but the rheumatologist wasn’t concerned. I’ve been prescribed a trial does of prednisone for 4 weeks so there isn’t much point in getting it retested at the moment. I’ll mention it to the GP as well so there is a log of it on the system though.

Not really as fab as you think.

Optimal levels, according to rt3-adrenals.org/cortisol_t... are

• Morning at the top of the range - yours is 58% through range, would be better at the top.

• Noon approximately 75% of the range - yours is 3.11% through range, would be better with a level around 6.

• Evening close to 50% of the range - impossible to comment, they've not given an actual result, should be around 2.75

• Nighttime at the bottom of the range - impossible to comment, they've not given an actual result.

This test is not a particularly good one. The evening and night time ranges start at 0. Ranges are based on healthy people. If anyone did actually have a result of 0 they'd probably either be very unwell or in a mortuary. The fact that they don't give an actual figure below <1.5 is unhelpful, particularly for the night time sample as you need that one low in range. Just saying <1.5 could mean that your level is as high as 1.4 and that would not be a good result for night time.

Nor do they test DHEA and it's important to test that as well as cortisol as it helps determine the stage of adrenal fatigue if present.#

Best test is done by Regenerus or Genova Diagnostics, they have proper ranges and they also test DHEA.

Thanks for this. I’ll take a look at the companies you’ve suggested. I think for peace of mind I need another test. I’m baffled to have gotten this result.

Regenerus thyroiduk.org/getting-a-dia...

Genova thyroiduk.org/getting-a-dia...

More straightforward to receive results from Regenerus - they contact you direct. Genova send to ThyroidUK who send on to you when they've received your Results Request Form.

Although they are in "range" they aren't really that good, your morning one should be at the top of the range, your midday & afternoon one should be higher. Do get another test to check them & if they are still low then ask your GP to do an early morning blood cortisol to see what that is but make sure you get copies of your results as most GP's don't understand the results.

Thanks Pauline. I’ll definitely be getting them redone. Will update when I get the results x

Thanks so much for your input. I’ve attached below the more recent bloods:

Sept 2020

CRP HS - 2.1 mg/L (<5)

Ferritin - 100 ug/L (13-150)

Active B12 - 59.9 pmol/L (>37.5)

Vit D - 111 nmol/L (50-175)

TSH - 3.43 mIU/L (0.27-4.2)

FT3 - 4.67 pmol/L (3.1-6.8)

FT4 - 17.2 pmol/L (12-22)

TgAb - 101kIU/L (<115)

TPO - <9 (<34)

As B12 was low again, albeit higher than before (I think because I’ve been supplementing folic acid), I did an MMA test. Result are below.

MMA - 0.63mg/l

Creatinine - 0.31g/l

MMA: Creatinine - 2mg/g

This rules out b12 issues I think.

I’m not on any meds.
