T3 in times of stress

So three and a half years ago I started my thyroid “issues” after the sudden unexpected death of a parent. Since then through this site and an awful lot of reading, I’m now well versed on the impact of emotional stress on our systems.

In recent months I’ve felt well, very well at times but the last couple of months I’ve been struggling a bit again to feel really well. I’m blaming this on peri menopause at the moment and intend to see my gp about it soon.

However, I’ve just lost my mum also, and while it wasn’t unexpected (she’d been ill for a long time and I’ve essentially been running two lives and homes for the last three years) I’m struggle right now with the mild chest pains I had before, head pressure and fatigue. As I said, recently I’ve had muscle weakness and heavy limbs again anyway so I know I’m not optimal to begin with for whatever reason.

My question is, should I maybe increase my T3 dose a little to try to accommodate the extra pressure? I’m already supplementing everything and all vits and mins were food at the last count. I’m back taking iron too as it was a little low last check.

Other than taking it as easy as possible, is there anything else I can do to try to mitigate the stress?

Thanks 🙏🏻

In my opinion (which may differ from others) not without testing TSH, FT4 and FT3 first.

Be Shamelessly selfish for a whole year, you've earned it.

put yourself first.

Say no to some things you 'should' do , and yes to some things you don't think you ought to.

I lost both mine close together in 2012 and it did take a long while to re adjust, even if you're expecting it, so be kind to yourself.

I'm not sure i'd change thyroid hormone dose until you have had a few months to find your new 'normal' , now you don't have the stress and running around of managing another life and house.

At least treat yourself to an FT4 and FT3 test to see what's what before you change anything.

Have you ever tried Bach Flower Rescue Remedy ? won't do anything for your F4 /3 levels , but it does a good job of helping you feel calm and settled after a shock .

As well as full thyroid testing, it would probably be a good idea to do a 24 hour adrenal stress profile to find whether how your cortisol production is doing after this prolonged period of personal strain. You may need to take an adaptogen, or an adrenal glandular, or perhaps even a small dose of hydrocortisone.
