Adrenal fatigue

Hi

I was on cortisone for a long time as a child and a number of times as an adult. I had Ulcerative Colitis.

I have a lot of problems which I think are as a result of taking them.

I suspect I have adrenal insufficiency because I’m so fatigued a lot of the time.

Any information as to try and improve things would be so helpful.

Thank you.

You need testing for adrenal insufficiency, a short synacthen test is a good start. I'm having it done tomorrow for suspected addisons.

In the first instance ask your GP to do an early morning blood cortisol to see what your levels are, ideally your cortisol levels should be between 350-550nmol/Ls so make sure you get copies of all your results. Just to warn you that adrenal fatigue isn't recognised as a medical condition by the medics. Adrenal insufficiency is & is a life threatening condition where the only treatment is steroids. I have adrenal insufficiency due to removal of a pituitary tumour.
