I am currently taking a natural thyroid medication as I was on Levothyroxine for 18 years and felt it didn’t help. For two years now I have been self medicating and taking 1.5 grain up until around 6 months ago I felt good but not now as I feel sluggish with weight gain and insomnia. I am 62 and passed the menopause which I feel has been a double whammy. I was wondering if I could add T3 daily to help put me back to where I used to be as I don’t think the natural thyroid I get is as strong.

Tired weight gain and insomnia
First step is to get full thyroid and vitamin testing
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies
Ask GP to test vitamin levels
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
If/when also on NDT make sure to take last third of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
