Hello friends, hope you are all keeping as well as possible in these strange times.
I had my annual blood test two weeks ago as requested by my GP (mainly thyroid function tests to check my Levo dosage) and they always include a Complete Blood Count.
My GP phoned me last week and informed me that my white blood cell count was very low (she did give me numbers but I wasn’t prepared and couldn’t write it down(!) She went on to say that it has been very low for the last two years when tested. I remember at least one time when I’ve been asked if I have had a cold or infection at the time of the test, but never recollected having one, but no more was said about it, so I was never worried.
I have had a referral through for Haemotology in two weeks, and was wondering if anyone else on the forum has found a connection with Hashimotos and low white blood cells? I can’t find much information generally on the web, so any info from you guys would be very much appreciated.
All the best x

Hi did you get any answers from haematology, I’ve just had bloods back with low white cell count and am having ongoing problems with burning arms , just trying to get an appointment with my Gp to discuss .
Hi, I had an appointment about five weeks ago, they did lots more blood tests, and I have a follow up appointment on Monday morning. It has been changed to a telephone appointment, which is much easier for me to be honest, rather than schlepping all the way to the hospital & paying a fortune for parking...😂
I’ll let you know what they say. I’m suspecting Rheumatoid Arthritis as I do have a lot of aches & pains , but who knows..!😕
Good luck 😉 please let me know what they say , I’ve spoken with my GP who is going to do further bloods including vitamins , I do supplement with vitamin B12 but it’s always still on the low side and a test for any nerve damage - didn’t even know that was available?
Hi, had my telephone appointment with the Haemotologist.
All seems ok, but he wants to repeat the blood clotting test, and we’ll have another appointment in about four weeks to discuss things.
My latest blood test ( taken a few days before the appointment) still showed a lower white blood cell count, but he said it was more likely due to a ‘benign’ condition.
I was just so relieved that it wasn’t Hepatitis - I had the Hep B vaccine some years ago due to working in dentistry, and the vaccine didn’t ‘take’, I had to have it repeated, and it was suggested at the time that I may already have the antibodies in my system.
At the time I didn’t think anymore about it, but since finding out about the low white blood cell count, I’ve been doing some research (obviously) and got in to a bit of a panic that it might be Hepatitis. So it was a massive relief when the consultant told me that that test was negative. I am sure that the LWB count must be connected with the thyroid and Hashimotos/ autoimmune disease.
I will have some questions prepared for the next appointment and see if I can get some satisfactory answers!
That’s great news , I’m speaking to my GP on Thursday re my new blood tests 2 bone profile test came back below range and neutrophils too high again, slowly slowly hopefully we will get some answers , I’ve reduced my t3 down to 0.625 and I week on I’m feeling ok - just wanted to see if it makes a difference and will retest bloods in 6 weeks 🤞
