I don't know what's going on with my thyroid!

I’ve been taking Metavive (porcine) for the past year and a half. I haven’t been feeling too well on it for the past few months and a few weeks ago I added T3 to it (6.25mcg). I felt a bit better but I became overmedicated when I took my second dose of Metavive in the afternoon. I only took T3 once as I had a problem with the fillers in it. Due to being overmedicated, I missed my Metavive dose the next morning, then went back to taking it normally as I thought I was okay then. Since then my heart kept racing and I appeared to still be overmedicated so I kept missing doses.

From then on, whenever I took Metavive my pulse rate would get too high. In the end I decided to stop taking it until I felt like I needed it, as I was obviously still overmedicated.

It has gone nearly a week now and I still don’t feel like I need to taking anything. My pulse rate is still higher than usual, although it’s more stable now and I feel like I have more energy. I don’t know if I should still not be taking anything. I have ordered some other brands of T3 to try and I was wondering whether to wait for them to arrive and start on that slowly and not bother with the Metavive anymore. But I don’t think I should start on it if my heart rate is still a bit high?

These are my recent blood test results from before I took T3:

FT4 8.5 pmol/L (12-22)

FT3 3.5 pmol/L (3.1-6.8)

TSH 0.15 miu/L (0.27-4.2)

The blood test was taken early in the morning, but I took my last dose of Metavive at around 2.30pm the previous day, as I've always had trouble leaving it until night to take it.

If anyone could offer advice, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

And what are the blood test results that told you you were over-medicated?

I know my results showed that I was under-medicated, that's why I am so confused. I have been over-medicated in the past and have been getting those symptoms (jittery, heightened anxiousness, as well as the increased heart rate). Normally, if I'm late taking Metavive, I feel awful with symptoms of being under-medicated, but I haven't had this at all. Whenever I take Metavive now, my heart rate goes up which gives me chest pains. It's like I don't tolerate Metavive anymore.

Well, you didn't answer my question, but it is perfectly possible that you don't tolerate Metavive anymore. How are your nutrients: vit D, vit B12, folate, ferritin?

I haven't had another blood test. I'm just going by symptoms and checking my pulse. Here are my other results:

Vit D 129.00 nmol/L (50-175)

Vit B12 >2000 ng/L (>180)

Folate 17 ng/ml (3.9-20)

Ferritin 65.90 ug/L (13-150)

Iron 33.55 umol/L (Range: 5.8 - 34.5)

TIBC 71.55 umol/L (Range: 45 - 72)

UIBC 38.00 umol/L (Range: 24.2 - 70.1)

Transferrin Saturation 46.89 % (Range: 20 - 50)

Well, your nutrients are good, so that's not the problem.

It could have been just a fluke, but do you have Hashi's? I cannot see how taking 1 tiny dose of 6.25 mcg T3 could push you into over-medication. Especially as your FT3 was so low before taking the T3. But, it could just be that you don't tolerate Metavive anymore.

I've always had low antibodies so I don't think I have Hashi's. Yes I think it must be something to do with the Metavive. I haven't been getting on too well with it since they reformulated it.

That's always the problem, isn't it: reformulation! Why do the do it!?!

Perhaps it’s the nucleotides they’ve added that’s upsetting you especially as you’ve been taking it for a while without any problems. You certainly don’t appear to be over medicated but you did leave too long a gap before your blood test so that will be showing false low frees. I’m sorry I can’t help you other than perhaps suggesting trying an NDT or another glandular (Thyrogold or Thyrovanz). It’s so difficult when we have to sort ourselves out with this diabolical treatment we’re all getting from the good old NHS

Yes I haven't been too well on Metavive since they reformulated it. I was going to try another NDT but there doesn't seem to be a reliable one to choose now. I will have a look at your suggestions, thank you.
