I'm back for another blood test at the end of September, which feels like a million years away.
If I were to start on a dose according to body weight I should be on about 125mcg.
Is there any milage in asking my GP to put me on 100mcg next time?
I felt great for awhile but have slipped back and feel like I did before I started levo. I thought of extending feeling like this for longer than necessary feels torturous. 😣
Got to be worth asking. Then if you get it, build up increases of 25 mcg at a time, every week or so, until you get to 100 mcg, hold and re-test. If you don't feel "right", you then have the option to slow down - but you sound very under-dosed at the moment!
It will also allow you to build up a small stash of "excess" - which I've always found to be useful, in case there's an unexpected delay in future between dropping off your prescription and getting more meds x
I've only just started really. Been on levo for almost 10 weeks so I know I'm still early days but I had about 2 weeks while I was on 25mcg where I felt amazing. Just like 'normal'! Deep cleaned my whole house and everything. 😲
But now I'm back on the sofa all day again while the children watch tv. Thank goodness school is starting soon!
I just wondered if there was a medical reason for going up in 25mcg or if I could skip a step. 🤞🏼
The reason is to let your body get used to having more hormone gradually, and not stressing it. Try skipping steps and you'll find yourself back at square one. If you increase too fast, or by too much, you could easily miss your sweet spot. So, increases of 25 mcg every six weeks until you feel well.
Greygoose is right that small slow steps are usually best - but I was started on 100 mcg not 25! Doing the sums now, that was 1.6 mcg x kg of weight rounded up. 25 mcg is really low unless you are over 60 or have major health issues. And if your starting dose by weight is 125 mcg, going up to 100 mcg in slow 25 mcg jumps over several weeks doesn't feel reckless to me!
I was started on 100 too, and my GP was horrified. She told me that the endocrinologist shouldn’t have done that, and I would have all kinds of bad reactions. I have to say I didn’t have any bad reactions, I just felt better than I had in years!
I feel exactly the same! I was diagnosed in Feb, and 6 months later still haven't found the right adjustment (sorry probably not that helpful). I still don't feel as well as I did before starting levo but I definitely need the thyro treatment. One thing I have learned (or rather am still learning) is patience, these 6 week intervals will not be rushed and there's bugger all I can do about it. However much I wish it were different! Wishing you strength and patience, and above all a helpful GP
