Weight gain

Over the past 4-6 weeks I feel like I’ve ballooned in weight. I’ve had an operation which is taking longer to recover than I thought but unsure why this sudden weight gain.

I’ve been reading through previous posts and many people speak about mucin? Does this cause the bloating /swollen feeling? If so how can I lose mucin? Would water pills help?

Also if your slightly over medicated would this help lose weight? Maybe controversial but what would happen if I increased my T3 only dose for a few weeks? What if any side affects could there be? Would it help lose fat or mucin?

Hey 👋 how did it go at A&E? Did you get sorted?

I know nothing about Mucin. However if you do try to up your dose without need you’ll probably just find yourself wired and anxious! Headaches, maybe sweating. You could end up a real mess 😱

Be patient 🤗 Youve been through a lot.

Hi 👋🏽 well I wasn’t impacted but they said “bowel coma”? Surgical team were supposed to call me the next day... no call! So I used my initiative, stopped the laxatives and to speed up my organs I increased my T3 and voila 5 days later my bowel started working. Such a relief!

I’m just still so bloated especially my stomach. My dad saw me before my op and again yesterday and he commented on how fat I am 🙈

Ive only been bloated like this before I was first diagnosed so unsure what’s going on.

Thank you I’m eating clean, exercising and focused as I know with hashi how easy it is to gain weight and so difficult to lose it

Ah yes I have heard of bowel coma. When I was 8 I was in traction for 2mths as I broke my femur. The lack of movement obviously made issues with my bowel movements 😬

Constipation or hard stools have always been a good indicator for me that I’m not optimal. Have you had your bloods done lately?

I had them done before my op and was over but same dose for a long time and usually optimal, hence I think I was have a hashi attack as went slightly hyper. But I stopped my meds just to get it down within range for my operation

But your op was weeks ago? I’d get them done again. You know the stress out bodies endure even for the simplest op (not saying yours was simple just reiterating my point) and stress makes us worse. Definitely get results before thinking of increasing 🤗

I don't think mucin would cause bloating. But, it does depend on your definition of 'bloating'. Bloating to me is gas in the intestine, but we don't all interpret words in the same way.

Mucin is a mucusy substance under the sking. Everybody has it, but hypos have it in excess. And, it holds water. If ever you find a way to get rid of it, do let us know, because we all love to be able to do that! :)

Hahaha lets hope it’s not mucin then 😂

Yes I mean bloating as in all over my body although after my op it is my abdomen especially atm.

I have photos of before I was diagnosed which was very bloated / puffy and after I started T3 and I looked like a different person

Think with having a hashi attack before my op and everything else going on my body is struggling with it all

Yes, well, you see, 'bloated' and 'puffy' just aren't the same things to me. lol

The key word is recovery and recovery takes time and patience. By increasing your T3 dose you could put extra strain on a body that is working hard to recover.

I doubt if your feelings of weight ballooning will be fat.

Surgery is very invasive and the body needs time to recover. Let it have that time.

Is it possible that some of your bloating is from surgical gas? Sometimes they fill you with gas so they can see around your organs for surgery. If so, Activated Charcoal may help. I wonder if an inflammatory response was triggered from the trauma of surgery and caused swelling. I definitely see the difference in your face but, to me you're still just as beautiful! You could try drinking ginger turmeric tea and eating other anti-inflammatory foods to see if it helps. Also, avoid inflammation causing foods like sugar and dairy. Best wishes!!
