Some help with recent thyroid results

Would appreciate help with some results I had with Thriva in July. Feeling fatigued, headaches, just generally unwell, also seemed to have developed some hayfever/allergy type symptoms for the first time in my life!

TSH 3.83 (normal 4.2 is cut off)

FT4 12.7 (below 12 is cut off)

Active B12 61.1(37.5-188 normal)

Folate 9.17(8.83-40 normal)

Overall Thriva said my results are good but wondering about my thyroid. Sample was taken in evening after eating. Last TSH results 3.2 in 2018. About 6 years ago, I had a high reading (not sure what it was) and was recalled for repeat test which apparently came back as normal. I’m a 49 year old female with fairly healthy lifestyle and BMI of 23 (although that’s becoming more tricky to maintain-I’m assuming it’s age-I was always stick thin in my 20’s and 30’s!)

Many thanks

Presumably you are not on levothyroxine?

Ft4 is very low

What’s Ft3 result?

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

B12 and folate are rather low

What are vitamin D and ferritin results?

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

If TPO or TG thyroid antibodies are high this is usually due to Hashimoto’s (commonly known in UK as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto’s. Low vitamin levels are particularly common with Hashimoto’s. Gluten intolerance is often a hidden issue to.
