No save your money for FULL Thyroid testing 6-8 weeks after you started on 50mcg levothyroxine
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking?
Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking?
Many people find Levothyroxine brands are not interchangeable.
Once you find a brand that suits you, best to make sure to only get that one at each prescription.
Watch out for brand change when dose is increased or at repeat prescription.
Many patients do NOT get on well with Teva brand of Levothyroxine. Teva contains mannitol as a filler, which seems to be possible cause of problems. Teva is the only brand that makes 75mcg tablet. So if avoiding Teva for 75mcg dose ask for 25mcg to add to 50mcg or just extra 50mcg tablets to cut in half
Teva and Aristo are the only lactose free tablets

Physicians should: 1) alert patients that preparations may be switched at the pharmacy; 2) encourage patients to ask to remain on the same preparation at every pharmacy refill; and 3) make sure patients understand the need to have their TSH retested and the potential for dosing readjusted every time their LT4 preparation is switched (18).
Levothyroxine is an extremely fussy hormone and should always be taken on an empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour after
Many people take Levothyroxine soon after waking, but it may be more convenient and perhaps more effective taken at bedtime

No other medication or supplements at same as Levothyroxine, leave at least 2 hour gap.
Some like iron, calcium, magnesium, HRT, omeprazole or vitamin D should be four hours away
(Time gap doesn't apply to Vitamin D mouth spray)
Remember to stop taking any supplements that contain biotin a week before any blood tests as biotin can falsely affect test results

Just don't!
ThyroComplex - a multivitamin and mineral containing things we should be tested for first and only supplemented if deficient, i.e. calcium and iodine.
Iodine is possibly the last thing a Hypo patient needs. Iodine solution used to be used to treat hypERthyroidism before the current radioactive iodine treatment so can make hypOthyroidism worse. Levothyroxine contains iodine (not as an added ingredient) and we get plenty of iodine in our diet from milk, yogurt, white fish, scampi, etc.
T-Convert - another multi - minerals with added gum guggul.
Adreset - an adaptogen used to lower cortisol - have you had cortisol tested?
Looking at your previous post you have now been started on 50mcg Levo. Give it chance to work. You are aiming for TSH around 1 or below with FT4 and FT3 in the upper part of their ranges.
In February your Medichecks result for Vit D was 33.9 Range 50 - 175. What have you done about this? The recommended level is 100-150nmol/L according to the Vit D Council/Vit D Society/Grassroots Health.
Thanks both! I guess I’m just really confused as all I seem to read is people slating levothyroxine and saying it absolutely doesn’t work, makes you worse etc and so I’m stuck. I haven’t got the meds yet, only prescribed on Friday so collecting tomorrow but I’m genuinely unsure as to if I should take them or not ☹️

Levo works for hundreds of thousands of people, it is a very small minority that don't do well on it. Forums like these exist to help everyone with a thyroid condition, although those doing well on Levo tend to not need help so they're off enjoying life rather than being on a forum.
Well let’s hope I’m one of those people then because I’m literally driving myself mad trying to read all the posts and decide what to do 😂
Thank you so much for your help - I’ll try levo for 6-8 weeks and see what happens next. Much appreciate!
Also, sorry, to answer your question re vitamin D - I took a very high dose for 2 months to raise my levels (under the advice of a nutritionist) and then when I was last tested in July it was 68 nmol/L
There are just under 2 million people in the U.K. on levothyroxine....it’s only 10-20% of people who have ongoing problems on levothyroxine
It’s important to take levothyroxine everyday ...get a weekly pill dispenser, so it’s easy to see if missed a dose
Getting thyroid levels tested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase
Extremely important to regularly retest vitamin levels and keep all four vitamins OPTIMAL
