Sugar/starch late evening eating

Hi All,

I was wondering whether anyone else gets a craving for sugary/starchy foods in the late evening, or is it just me!

I'm fine all day and find it easy to eat sensibly but after dinner, usually about 8 to 8.30pm I just want to keep eating junk!

I've had a cortisol blood test at 9.20am before food, after my insisting it was tested, the result was high but not above range, 598 (119 to 618).

I need to lose weight yet seem to lack any will power when the craving hits. I'm hoping that losing weight will help the aches in my muscles and joints and the physical tiredness I feel after 'doing stuff'. I used to be a size 10 and am now a 16 which I expect isn't helping.

Any ideas besides a slap on the wrist for being weak willed!

🤓

This is very common, not just for people with thyroid issues. A lot of people sit down with a cuppa and a few biscuits I front of telly.

A good way to stop this is by not buying the sugary stuff. 😊

I'm afraid my very effective solution to this problem (which i have suffered from since adolescence ) is not one i can recommend to anyone.

I allow myself one nice fat roll up a day. and make myself wait till after dinner to smoke it.

If i decide not to smoke at all , iv'e found i can achieve the same solution with a egg cup size dose of Cognac, sipped slowly.

The only 'healthy' solution i have found is to strand myself in a tent in the countryside with no shops within walking distance ! and even then i sit there contemplating highway robbery.

I'll go for brandy as I've given up smoking!🤣🤣

That's good . You'll be able to afford a nicer bottle of brandy! .... if it's expensive it stops you drinking it too fast.

It's more than likely that the weight gain and muscle/joint aches are both symptoms of the same thing, rather than one causing the other. Both are hypo symptoms. If you want to lose weight, first make sure you are optimally medicated for your thyroid. The weight gain is unlikely to be due to what you eat - and probably isn't even fat. It's water retention. Dieting will not get rid of that.

Thank you Greygoose. I'm still working on optimising medication and bits etc. I'm holding steady weight wise at the moment so you are probably right.

Onwards and upwards. 🤓
