Hi

I'm going to be ordering various privates tests for my son and me so it's going to be an expensive couple of weeks. I've been provided with details for discounts for blood tests, are there any codes out there for cortisol discounts?

Thanks

The best saliva adrenal test is the one that measures both cortisol plus DHEA. Genova Diagnostics and Regenerus offer this test, both of which are supposed to have special prices for ThyroidUK members and you would need to follow the guidance for ordering here:

Regenerus thyroiduk.org/getting-a-dia...

Genova thyroiduk.org/getting-a-dia...

I use Regenerus because they contact you direct when results are ready, with Genova results are sent to TUK who only release them to you when they've received your consent form.

Medichecks and Blue Horizon only test cortisol, not DHEA, and unfortunately their tests have a couple of ranges with zero as the lower limit, which when you think about it makes you wonder who they tested to base their ranges on, I'm sure if I had a level of zero I'd either be extremely ill or in the mortuary.

Hi, I thought I'd replied but I don't see it here. Perhaps I didn't actually send it or was it deleted?

Anyway, I've looked at the cortisol tests and there appear to be two. One is:

Adrenal function (HOR05)

and the other:

Comprehensive adrenal function without CAR (LRX01)

Is there any point in the latter?

Thanks

No, your response wasn't deleted.

Have you looked at the sample reports of both tests? Read the comments about each test then decide.

I use HOR05 cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0...

LRLXO1 cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0...

Oh well, I thanked you for the information and also making me laugh out loud. Perhaps it's inappropriate to laugh at certain things but it can't be helped when the urge to laugh arises and especially in current times when the media seems to want to bombard us with negativity

Ok, yes, I'd read the sample reports but didn't really understand fully, the more comprehensive one. If it's not worth the extra £40, I'll probably go for the ,was detailed one

If you look at the graph for the LRX01 (the green band is where we

should be), you'll see that there should be a rise in cortisol level

between waking and 30 minutes later. This more comprehensive test will

show if we have that rise.

I couldn't remember earlier on where I'd seen the explanation of the CAR but I've found it now. Have a look here and see what you think.

Genova Diagnostics say this:

The Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR) is a transient, immediate rise in cortisol upon awakening and is distinct from the diurnal rhythm. CAR reflects a person's ability to cope with anticipated challenges and their perception of control around chronic stress. CAR measurement provides insight into HPA axis resiliency.

I'm afraid I can't help with the Secretory IgA test or what significance it has when done with an adrenal test.

Thank you SeasideSusie, I completely understand now. I think for me the four collections will do but will order the CAR for my son. He's training to be a pilot so it would be really useful to see how he responds to stress

Noelnoel, I really feel for you. Private testing can be very expensive, however, can be worth it. I recently used Regenerus' 24 hour saliva test. It might be useful to email the customer support team, explain your situation and ask if they could afford you a discount. Good luck x
