Help - Hashimoto in remission, symptoms remain + MEDICHECKS 20% DISCOUNT CODE

Hi!

I am based in London and I have had trouble doing the usual follow-up of my thyroid like I normally did in Luxembourg and Spain (where I lived previously).

I was diagnosed 6 years ago and currently at 31 been told that I am "in remission".

My TSH is below 3 and antibodies low, but I still have some symptoms:

My least favourite one is fatigue (very debilitating) followed by bad sleep, headaches, anxiety and some GI distress.

I eat a plantbased diet which has improved many things but not all, and try to be active but I dont exercise much per se, just a bit of yoga (wish I could do more but my fatigue doesnt allow me!).

NHS wont investigate my symptoms as Im in range and not even "subclinically hypothyroid" like I was before, so I have never even gotten to try whether synthetic hormones would work on me.

I also have AXA PPP with my work, but despite getting a referral letter from my GP they refused to cover a private endo as they would have needed "my general gp to try medication which would have then failed".

I am currently (again!) running my own labs with medicheck.

Thyroid UltraVit including everything, plus some additional hormones and minerals.

I plan on consulting Dr. Bernard Willis from the Thyroid UK Doctor list but I am not so hopeful at this point. Any reviews or recommendations on things to look for?

Attached my latest labs. Any comments?

Also - I desperately need to not spend loads so researched for a discount code for the labs, which I found. Thought I would share it with you guys:

INSIDEOUT4

It has worked for me today for a 20% off.

Thanks!

María

Your ferritin is terribly low

Ask GP to do full iron panel to test for Anaemia

Ferritin should be at least 70. Eating liver or liver pate once a week would help.

Are you vegetarian on principle? You need more iron in diet

TSH is likely too high. Most need it under one

Total T4 is very low. FT4 and FT3 all too low. Suggests you need 25mcg increase in dose of Levothyroxine

Retesting 6-8 weeks after

B12 and folate borderline.

No vitamin D test. Do you supplement vitamin D?

Are you on strictly gluten free diet or tried it? Many with Hashimoto's find it helps or is essential

Hi SlowDragon, thanks for your answer.

I did identify the ferritin being an issue but I am supplementing and it's not coming up.

I have heard mixed things about supplementing too from reputed doctors online.

Re.Suggests you need 25mcg increase in dose of Levothyroxine - as said, they consider I am subclinic and in remission for Hashimoto so I am in NO hormonal treatment at the moment.

I supplement Vit D, my last result was well in range and have been supplementing since.

Yes, I am on a gluten free diet for years now. I havent found a difference but doing everything I can to get better.

Why do they think the Hashi's is in remission?

in reply to greygoose

TSH normal, antibodies in normal range. *Shrugs shoulders*

I think remission is rather a strong word. Antibodies and TSH fluctuate all the time. Anitbodies are highest just after an immune system attack, which is followed by a Hashi's 'hyper' swing. After the hyper, the person can be euthyroid for a period before going hypo again. Saying that the Hashi's is 'in remission' implies that it could just go away by itself. But, Hashi's doesn't do that, I'm afraid.

in reply to greygoose

I agree. I am just saying what they told me and therefore why they won't treat me.

Well, they won't treat you because your TSH isn't high. There is no treatment for Hashi's, anyway. The only treatment they could give you is to replace the hormone that your thyroid can no longer make. But, you don't need it at the moment. :)

in reply to greygoose

you agree there is nothing they can do for me now then?

Not at the moment, no. Have you ever been on thyroid hormone replacement and been taken off it?

In time you're probably going to need it, your TSH will get higher and your Frees lower. But, you would never find a doctor to give you levo with those results, and I doubt it would help.

Have you tried a gluten-free diet? Taking selenium? Your B12 should probably be higher, and your ferritin definitely should. And if you sort those things out, then you could feel a lot better.

in reply to greygoose

No, never been on treatment. Been working on my b12 for a long time, and vit D improved...gut improved...improved many things and lowered antibodies but ferritin is a toughie!

It often is difficult when you're on a plant-based diet. Do you take vit C with your iron tablets, to increase absorption?

in reply to greygoose

yes : )

I am a 30 year vegetarian, and have been diagnosed with Hashimotos along with some other issues only 2 years ago, with help from this group I feel good, so it is not difficult let alone extremely difficult to be be vegetarian! I am annoyed with this statement and will be following it up.
