Test results

Hello. It has taken me months to post but I would like to ask your opinion about my blood results.

I forgot to skip taking my levo that morning (125mg)

Sore joints on and off

Strange kind of tired if I do exercise (more like overall exhaustion/ache rather than sore muscles)

Monumental weight gain

Low mood and no get up and go

I asked the doctor to test the vitamins but pretty much got fobbed off. Apart from vitamin D, she said the others were not necessary and she would be able to tell any deficiencies by a blood test.

Said blood tests also shown below. Not sure how that determines ferretin b12 etc

I think I’ll have to opt for the private tests suggested previously on here.

Although now I’m wondering about the red blood cell count (I had thyroid cancer -2013- hopefully gone now)

Any comment gratefully received

Thanks

Yes think you need to get FULL testing privately

Folate, ferritin and B12 need testing

Vitamin D slightly too low

Vitamin D

GP will often only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with hashimoto’s we frequently need higher dose than average

Thyroid levels

Ft4 false high as you took levothyroxine before test

Ft3 within range but right at bottom and probably too low for you

Suggest you start supplementing vitamin D and get private testing

Likely to need addition of small dose of T3 alongside levothyroxine

Email Dionne at Thyroid UK for list of recommend thyroid specialist endocrinologists who will prescribe T3

tukadmin@thyroiduk.org

But before booking any consultation, first step is to get all four vitamins tested and optimal

If Ft3 still remains low ...then you will need T3

Your MCV - Mean Corpuscular Volume - is low in range. In other words your red blood cells are quite small. This is possibly an indication that you are low in iron and/or ferritin.

It is possible to be iron deficient or low in iron with or without anaemia.

If your doctor won't test - and when test results are in range they often won't - you will need to do a finger-prick test of your own.

If you can get an iron panel done and post the results and reference ranges then we can suggest how you might help yourself.

Iron panel with a finger-prick test :

medichecks.com/iron-tests/i...

Permanent 10% discount :

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

On occasion the iron deficiency check has a larger discount available, usually on Thursdays - but note that discounts can't be combined.
