Breathing issues and hypothyroidism

I have had breathing issues walking talking and breathing at the same time, I get very short of breath but strangely only when I’m outside. I can exercise in the gym without any issue and in the house? Anyone else? Any suggestions?

I'm sometimes OK (indoors and outdoors makes no difference) and sometimes not, but I have asthma and emphysema. I used to be much worse. I found never breathing through my mouth (out or in) and trying Buteyko breathing (do a web search) really made a difference. But it could just be a pollen allergy outside.

I also can swim & breathing ok , but found walking uphill ( just a short spurt) took a while for breath to recover- abnormally long! Also, in the bad old days before I stopped gluten I would get very breathless- even while sitting- I reckon bread caused bloating which may have pushed on lungs? Can only think that was cause? Now I'm on a better dose of NDT (after 25 years on levo) ! My breathing has improved after upping my dose by just 1/2 a grain in the last 5 months! I can even almost run up that hill and breathing recovers as it should...I'm 62 - Good luck .

Hi, Thank you so much for the response what is NDT and do you take it as well as or instead of Levo?

Instead of : I took Levothyroxine for 25 long years - kept going to GP with all the usual ailments ( thyroid related ) lethargy , weight gain , fluid retention , exhaustion etc - was told I had M.E ( I don’t !) saw Dr Skinner who upped my Levothyroxine- but I felt very ill on a bigger dose - after 25 years - after being on here & research & reading lots - I found. A private endocrinologist- who listened & prescribed Nature Throid ( made one USA - it’s from the pigs thyroid gland - sadly I have to buy it ! Though some get it on NHS - it’s T3 & T4 - I hope this helps - lots of good advice on this forum - listen to your body - don’t waste 25 years like I did believing my GP’s

So encouraging to hear that you can run uphill. I too am frustrated with shortness of breath and muscle weakness when I am walking. It comes and goes randomly it seems. But also it is only outdoors. I am taking 1-1/4 grain NP Thyroid just recently increased from 1 grain, and stopped T3, 5 mcg. I do have days where I hardly can move like yesterday! it has only been two weeks so I am waiting to see if this new dosage is better. I had been taking the t3 for 6 months, but new doctor thinks I am hyper, I don't necessarily agree. Another experiment I am so tired of going hyper hypo hyper hypo oh, I don't know what I am anymore.

I now take 3 & 1/2 grains - yes the muscle weakness I had terribly In Levothyroxine- doctor kept doing liver blood tests ! Let me know how you get on - it takes time - I’m just coming to year 3 this month on NDT I love it - it’s saved my life !

Could it be that you move faster when outside? Just a thought ?

I have had that too when I am outside, getting shortness of breath and having a hard time walking. There's a lot of pollen around and I thought maybe that was it. Because when I used to go to the YMCA an exercise I did not have this problem. So I will enjoy reading your replies this forum.
