Feeling a bit overwhelmed, I was given a phone appointment with a trainee GP, and he sought advice from the practice GP, he said my TSH level was too low, and that I was to go for tests, as it looked like they were over medicating me. I tried to explain but he said that they could not risk increasing my dose, which could possibly make me hyper; confused 😐

Sadly only looking at TSH...despite rock bottom T3

Last thing you need is dose reduced

You do need vitamins tested

Email Dionne at Thyroid UK for list of recommend thyroid specialist endocrinologists, looks like you might need it

Yes, sadly he did not want to know about my T3 results; I will get in touch with an endocrinologist, thank you for your help , feeling a bit deflated .

You need to get vitamin levels tested

Getting these optimal can improve conversion of Ft4 to Ft3

Yes, the doc agreed to get the vitamin tests done, so I will update on here once I get the results. :)

Yes, sadly he did not want to know about my T3 results

So the new generation of GPs are going to be as ignorant about hypothyroidism as most of the current generation. There is no hope for us :(

My TSH does not reflect how I am feeling because it is a pituitary gland hormone not a thyroid gland hormone. It is the T4 and T3 which gives a better idea of how high your levels are. For example my TSH is lowish at 0.38 and I feel well but when it was 0.80 I felt ill and could hardly get out of bed. I wish the NHS would stop using the TSH to test for thyroid disease because it my case it means nothing unless it is sky high or suppressed.

Thank you, it makes you wonder how many people are out there suffering because of this; I tried to explain to him, but he wasn’t listening, it’s really frustrating:)

I have given up with my GP now he actually told me he would be struck off if he didn't stick to NHS guidelines. I now do my own private blood tests through Medichecks. You can read my story on my profile page if you are interested.

Yes please, I will take a look, it makes you feel quite let down, so I would be interested to see how you have managed yours :)
