The Lockdown has confirmed another symptom

Now that our social lives are conducted via Zoom et al, and I spend a lot of time within sight of my own face, i've noticed that my resting face (usually resting bitchface tbh) now features a prominent tongue. A bit like when people with Downs cant seem to keep their tongue in. That's a hypo thing right?

If it's scalloped round the edges ,and pale and puffy , i've been told it is (by an accupuncturist who was fixing my shoulder! ) Or maybe you've just got a big tongue............i've also read that deep fissures in it are a sign of something too , but i can't remember what right now..... i',ve just woke up at 4.30 am precisely (again) ....... is that one too?

It's a symptom of a B12 deficiency for sure, a large swollen beefy tongue is one description. Often suffered alongside thyroid problems. There is a very good site on here for that too.

Good luck.

I had a sore, enlarged tongue at around time of diagnosis.

Unpleasant.

It resolved with adequate treatment but I cannot be sure that B12 was not a factor - never been tested! And I did take regular oral 1000 microgram B12 tablets. So cannot confidently say whether it has hypothyroidism, low B12 or something else!

If pushed, I do think that the actual swelling was from hypothyroidism.

I was always biting the inside of my mouth..... my tongue was in the way. The B12 theory does fit for me, so it'd be worth investigating if you too have symptoms of B12 deficiency. I remember that my mother in law got diagnosed very late with hypo and that she'd developed a pronounced lisp.

When I as diagnosed by Dr P , he related a large tongue with pie crust edges to being hypothyroid .

I just had a look at my tongue. It looks gross from the side! Not scalloped but sort of thick and slightly wrinkled, a bit like the side of my foot. But as I've never studied the side of my tongue before... :-D

before I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism one of my symptoms was enlarged tongue so much so that I couldnt speak properly,I sounded so slurred as if I was drunk. It was also scalloped round the edges too.I also had to keep my mouth open slightly as I felt my tongue couldn't fit in my mouth properly. It did get better when I started treatment but still isnt as small as it once was.I also have lots of fissures on my tongue also thats never gone away

I found when I was under medicated that I had a lisp. Also had trouble swallowing as there seemed to be too much tongue in the way. Better now properly medicated.
