Hi there
I have had this problem for a long time but much much worse since having hypothyrodism.
So I was prescribed eucerin (urea) 10% cream and that helps a great deal because I am dry in many areas. Feet, hands, lower legs and elbows.
However i recently discovered that lactic acid mixed with water 50/50 and brushed onto my feet, left to dry overnight and within a day or 2 all dead dry skin starts to peel off. I then reapplied the week after. Just continued with my cream as well and my feet are really good now.
Look up lactic acid peels on youtube. Xx
First
Make sure thyroid levels are optimal
Do you have results you can add?
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
Regularly retest vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin
What vitamin supplements are you taking?
Add results and ranges if you have them
Magnesium flakes in bath once or twice a week or just in a foot bath can help give softer skin
Thanks, all my levels are perfectly optimised. Had a full panel done 6 weeks ago... Just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas whilst the Dr's are not running at capacity.

Just testing TSH and FT4 is inadequate, you need Ft3 tested
Vitamin D at least around 80nmol
Folate over ten
Serum B12 over 500
Ferritin half way through range
I've had everything mentioned tested 6 weeks ago, and everything is fine... I feel really good for the first time in a year so am going with what my body is telling me. I just wanted any recommendations until I can see my Dr endo/GP. But thanks for your knowledge - much appreciated.
It's possible the Levo/T4 you are taking is not converting into the ACTIVE T3 - needed in every cell of your body. It is LOW T3 that causes symptoms - dry skin being one of 300 symptoms. This is why SlowDragon has mentioned above the need for the correct testing. Also B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD need to be optimal for the good conversion of T4 into T3.
Do you exfoliate your dry skin ? Lots of foot exfoliating creams available in pharmacies - once that is done then add a foot cream to moisturise the new skin beneath. Job done ! I would not bother a doctor personally ...
Coconut oil works well ...
I agree with Marz. Coconut oil works a treat. Massage a bit in every night and again in morning . Great for nails too.
According to Dr Eric Berg it's due to a Vitamin B3 deficiency or known as Pellagra. Nutritional deficiencies are quite common with thyroid patients.
