Hi guys

Has anyone used this and had any benefit whilst suffering with anxiety? It’s new to me... probably as new as my thyroid condition 🙄 just a looking for ways to manage it until my thyroid gets under control... eventually!

I tried it once, with an alternative practitioner (who turned out to be an absolute charlatan!) and found it very relaxing. I left her surgery floating on a fragrant cloud. I went back a second time, and it had no effect whatsoever! So, I don't know what happened, there. If I knew more about it, I might give it another chance (but not with her!). Worth trying, I think. It won't cure anything, but could make you feel more relaxed. :)

Thankyou, I’ll give anything a go. I’ve never suffered before and wish I’d never have to suffer again 😩 never realised it could be so bad tbh xx

Ahhhhh nobody does realise it - until it happens to them. I'm all for trying things to see if they can give some relief - within reason, of course! :D

Sometimes I find it very soothing. I was having a day where I felt close to tears and I bought a bottle. I added a few drops to a glass of water and just felt everything lift. I could trust myself to be in a room with others around after that.

Thankyou, I think I’m going to give it a go. Can’t do any harm I guess 🙏 lol xx

I tried it when my 8 week old grandson was "touch and go" in hospital, my stress levels went through the roof. The Bach remedy helped and my grandson recovered.

Yes, I'd say try it....nothing to lose

With correct thyroid treatment you will improve.

It's a horrible feeling which I guess many of us have experienced

Hope Bach helps

Take care

I have fond memories of it being very effective on shocked adults ,hysterical children , and even terrified sheep !.

I'd forgotten all about it, now that i no longer live in a field of hippies, but you've reminded me how useful it was to have around . gonna get some again for the daughters driving lessons .might help both of us !

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27 in reply totattybogle

Maybe an alcohol free version for the driving test :D the alcohol can stay on your breath for a little bit after, so I wouldn't want anyome to get the wrong idea.

Ellie-Louise profile image
Ellie-Louise in reply toCooper27

I never found it did, neither did the chief examiner who took me for my test, otherwise I’m sure he would have mentioned it.

He had a reputation of never passing anyone, but he passed me. It was my first test and I was so relaxed that I chatted to him all the way through about anything and everything, I found that he was a very nice man.

At the end back at the test centre after telling me I had passed, all he said was that I would probably be best to get an automatic car because I wasn’t too hot on the gear changes.

But I didn’t need to because after that my husband managed to get my head around the gears, something my driving instructors had never been able to do.

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27 in reply toEllie-Louise

I was gifted a breathyliser and had heard it can give a false positive if you use alcohol based breath spray/rescue remedy before using it, so I tried taking a few drops and breathylising myself to see if it was true and it did come back high. It's not that you're drunk or anything, but I would just take that worry out of the equation by using a non-alcohol based version for a driving test :)

Ellie-Louise profile image
Ellie-Louise in reply toCooper27

I have never heard of the spray version. I’m going back 16 years here, I never wanted to drive when I was young so I was mid 50’s when I decided I would need to be able to drive just in case...

Anyhow, as I remember it was a couple of drops or so on my tongue.

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27 in reply toEllie-Louise

Oh sorry, I was meaning breath freshener sprays, not rescue remedy sprays. They have expanded their range in the last 15 years - I think you can get room sprays now.

The couple of drops of rescue remedy on the tongue did set off my breathyliser as well though.

Actually ,now i think about it , in relation to the sheep,

It was one of the other Bach Flower Remedies,( for fear of death -might have been Aspen?) there are many of them.

Some people say this type of 'medicine' is only effective because of the placebo effect, but an event i witnessed during the Foot and Mouth Disease quarantine convinced me it is absolutely real.

Our landowner had a much loved flock of sheep. They had to be slaughtered on the farm by the army. The soldiers hated having to do it at one farm after another, but had got used to just getting on with it without getting upset.

The waiting sheep were always in a very frightened state ,and the noise they make is very hard to bear . (they couldn't see what was happening at the top of the lane, but i reckon they knew) .

Anyway , the landowner mixed up a nose spray of Bach Flower for fear of death, and went round the waiting flock and gave them all a dose.

They all went quiet , stopped running around, just stood.

When the soldiers saw how calm the sheep were , some of them were brought to tears, because they had been killing panicked sheep day after day at other farms.

So i'm convinced the effect is real , and somewhere there is a squad of soldier's that are converts too.

Hi, I have used Bach Rescue remedy on & off for about 30 years. Myself & my family have used it in times of stress for years. We find it very helpful & soothing, it relaxes without drowsiness, very calming. I myself have suffered from anxiety & panic attacks & it's always the first thing I reach for when I start feeling this way to help me cope. It's the sort of thing you use maybe a few times a day, may be for a few days & then forget about because it's worked& you're not needing it, if that makes sense. My children & hubby have used it before exams & interviews, my mum before the dentist & also helped my brother in law before he goes on a plane. I have even put 1 drop in my pets water on bonfire night years ago. I passed some on to the teacher I was volunteering with when she was very anxious about Ofsteds visit, she uses now. So you can see I am a big fan,I always have the spray bottle in my handbag it's like my emergency first aid kit. I hope it helps you like it has us. I have used other Bach flower remedies but the Rescue is so helpful for stress related symptoms it my absolute favourite, It's worth a read about the rest of the flower remedies too. They are linked to a variety of emotions that we all go through, especially when newly diagnosed & trying to managed symptoms & emotions. X

Hi Rosie. I am a Bach therapist and also coeliac. I suffer with anxiety and when I’m stressed and overwhelmed with worries my Bach remedy bottle is the first thing I’m reaching for. Now , hazyc, gave you a very good answer in how to use the remedy but it helps to be even more specific. For example for acute cases, use the Rescue Remedy bottle, for fear of known reasons use Mimulus and for fear of unknown reasons use Aspen. Take the remedy a few times per day at least 4 drops and for at least 3 weeks. It will help you. Safe recovery my dear.If you have anymore questions just ask. Bach remedies are a wonderful gift from the Mother Nature for us.

Hi Mikeila, my grandson (23) suffers with severe depression and anxiety. He’s taking antidepressants. Would it be safe for him to use Bach flowers remedy (and which type ) while on antidepressants?

Hi Rosie Bach flower remedies are brilliant. Except the set from nelsons who don't stick to the original recipe instead use inferior ingredients. When I took their rescue I became more anxious disturbed and hyper and couldn't sleep 12hrs after 1dose.(I'm hypothyroid)So I contacted them to find what caused such a strong reaction which is when I discovered the changes to original recipe. Now I use healing herbs Bach remedies. Ainsworths are also good.

Hope this helps🌼

Rosie .... I've tried Bach's Rescue Remedy too and it " soothes"

Have you considered also .....

Motherwort

Bugleweed and

Lemon Balm

For anxiety and panic attacks ?

I have Graves' disease and anxiety is a very significant dreadful symptom !

I bought those three ingredients in liquid form and mixed them together in equal measures... and poured them into a brown glass bottle together .

They had a very great effect on me ..

I took the mixture particularly at bedtime as it helped me to sleep much better

.. but also at anytime of day when I needed to feel less anxious or afraid .

Have a Google at the three ingredients and see if they might suit you too ..

i.e. bugleweed for Anxiety ... etc , etc ...

I hope IF you decide to try this mixture it helps your Anxiety in the very positive way it helped me

Luv Mx🌹

Hi Rosie, I’m another Bach’s Rescue Remedy fan! An aromatherapist I was seeing 25years ago put me on to it during a very difficult marriage break-up. I’ve used it at times of feeling anxious ever since, including also when I was first diagnosed as hypo a year ago. I don’t wish to sound woo-woo, but it makes me feel supported by something beyond me. Whether that’s actually what happens I guess is debatable. But the sense of calm and resourcefulness it brings is very helpful.

Hi Rosie

I can agree with all of the above. Also, I have had terrible episodes of anxiety and panic attacks over the years- but many triggered by menopause and then more recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s- what I can add is that I’m 4 months into Levothyroxine and my anxiety has disappeared.

Clearly, like many right now I have background anxiety with what’s happening but it’s not the type I was suffering from previously which was really debilitating at times.

I’d also recommend Magnesium (I’ve been taking Igneous triple magnesium) for several weeks as recommended on here and I am convinced it’s keeping me calm and helping with sleep etc. I’m not suggesting you load up on loads of vitamins without discussion with GP as I don’t know your medical history, but the combination of thyroxine and the magnesium has changed things dramatically for me.

Also, Anxiety U.K. has some great tips and podcasts, especially to support with any enhanced anxiety triggered by these very difficult times. I don’t know if this helps?

I, like others on here, are with you. Until you experience it, you have no real understanding of what it can feel like but you WILL get better.

So, Bach’s Rescue and I’d suggest some research on low Magnesium and the impact on the nervous system.

Best wishes

Xx

Thanks butterfly, I did try at the start of my diagnosis taking some magnesium but it happened to be a day when looking back I was suffering from a severe anxiety episode but I believed I was having an allergic reaction 😔 so I stopped them straight away and haven’t tried them again since. I have bought some magnesium spray tho but I’ve only used it once as I Keep forgetting i have got it, I must give it another go x

Hi Rosie

Yes it’s difficult to know isn’t it when you in the middle of a bad, bad day- think I was the same. Worth trying the Bach’s first though as it really is wonderful! And I might have missed your details- have you started Levo and what dose are you on? What brand? And how long for?

Sorry if you’ve already said this elsewhere. Lots of questions 😁 x

Rosie2m profile image
Rosie2m in reply to

I started on levo end of November, I’m only on 50mcg. My first episode of anxiety and what I now believe to be a panic attack was in the first few weeks of me starting levo (mercury pharma) my next one was when I changed brand to actavis but I had also been ill and that was when the lockdown was imposed and I didn’t want to change brand but someone collected my prescription for me and they wouldn’t change them and my next one was when I took one tablet of the mercury pharma brand again on Friday, that said I had also been reading more of the news and was stressing about other things so at first I chalked it up to the tablets, but now I do think it’s anxiety. It doesn’t help that I work in a hospital and things are changing there every day. I think I just need a bit of help lol xx

in reply toRosie2m

Yes this makes sense! I started on Levo in early Jan- TEVA and had terrible reaction- switched to Actavis and much better but I had to go to a private GP to get an increase to 75 and I’ve been much much better since then! Had bloods done with him yesterday so I’ll be interested to see what the TSH and T4 is.

You could be under medicated as 50 is only a starting dose and you should have had a review. What was your initial TSH, T4 etc before medication? Any later blood tests?

Also I too had the news panic thing so have avoided it completely and it’s helped enormously. I can only guess how difficult it must be working in a hospital- you do need help and support. It’s a huge thing all of this- even those locked in at home are experiencing panic so goodness knows how much harder it is for you xx

Rosie2m profile image
Rosie2m in reply to

Well I’ve had numerous blood tests because of ongoing problems, it started last August when my tsh was 7.11 then got tested and it was 9.7 then finally after fighting for another test it was 10.35 and I started treatment albeit the dr was reluctant... even though I was suffering severely and shed been signing me off work for the 2months prior... then I had a test in jan and my level was 3 something and then in March my level was 0.85 but I had been feeling really good for the weeks before that test and it’s been downhill since then. I had a blood test the dr requested yesterday but she will only test tsh 🙄 x

Rosie2m profile image
Rosie2m in reply to

I also think I will have trouble getting an increase in meds, if anything my dr is likely to stop it 😡

It’s been nice to read all the comments tho and know I’m not alone, this thyroid journey has been a stressful one especially being followed by this covid. I used to gym a lot and that always de stresses me but seems that option has gone and working out at home just isn’t the same x

in reply toRosie2m

Rosie

I totally get where you are at! Those TSH readings at start really high!! I got to 5.9 and was so very ill- can’t even describe how poorly- I was off work for 6 weeks and my mum had to move in to look after me and she’s 78!! Yes, a TSH in the below 1 will make most GP panic but that’s where most hypo people feel well. I got down to 2.9 and my GP would not increase Levo from 50 as said it was dangerous- but I still felt poorly- paid for a private Endo who wanted to take me off Levo! Then, long story, found an amazing private GP who knows a lot about hypo. He diagnosed Hashimoto’s as my antibodies were tested and were very high- my Endo said they were irrelevant!? Anyway, he was happy to trial 75s and I went yesterday for full bloods T4 T3 etc and vitamins so will see what they bring. I feel well so let’s see.

It is massively stressful. I work in a school and you would not believe the panic amongst school staff re the re-opening. It’s absolutely stressful and I fully empathise with you. I can only suggest you insist you keep your Levo. I’d there a doctor there you think might be more open to trialling an increase pending results. Are you still feeling strong hypo symptoms? My first NHS GP would only start me on 25s- I literally could not stand up, or talk!! But another GP at the practice had no hesitation in putting me on 50s. He left though so hence I went privately. Costly but I used some savings. Not an option long term, or an option for most so please forgive me for mentioning. I know some have the capacity and it’s very frustrating. I’m a single parent etc and this money was intended for something else but I just could not cope xx

There are chewable Rescue Remedies which I don't think leave the breath smelling of Brandy! I keep some in my car - just in case of emergencies. It's a while since I used either but I always have it handy. Actually not so long - my brother's funeral a little over a year ago.

I agree with you..I've used the pastilles in the past, less noticeable than producing a bottle from your handbag! I've also found the drops, straight onto the tongue, very helpful during stressful times.

I have used it for probably forty years. Always carry some in my bag. Just ensure you buy ‘Bach Original Flower Remedies’. Rescue Remedy comes in drops, spray, or pastilles. I prefer drops...the smallest to carry easily and unobtrusively.
