Before I wrote yo tye GP on Friday re them stopping my B12 injections that I have already posted about , she had previously gone off on another tangent because my liver ALT enzymes were raised, does anyone have a document from a medical person to say it is linked to UA thyroid or Hashimotos , she fIked to accept this when mentioned that I’d read it. She also doesn’t accept that low vit D would make you feel poorly either or that because I’d finished 3 months of folic acid that I felt poorly again and said I should be back to normal and fine

Many Hashimoto’s patients have low vitamin levels and need to self supplement virtually continuously

If vitamin levels are within range GP is not obligated to prescribe

NHS only treats actual deficiencies

When were vitamin D, folate, B12and ferritin last tested

Vitamin D

GP will only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.

Loading dose vitamin D is 300,000iu over 6-8 weeks.thats typically 5000iu per day for 8 weeks or 7000iu per day for 6 weeks. Important to get levels retested at end of prescription

But improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with hashimoto’s we frequently need higher dose than average

Government recommends everyone supplement October to April

Vitamin D and Covid

Vitamin D supplementation was safe and it protected against acute respiratory tract infection overall. Patients who were very vitamin D deficient and those not receiving bolus doses experienced the most benefit.

B12 and folate.

Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Igennus Super B complex are nice small tablets. Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks

Or Thorne Basic B or jarrow B-right are other options that contain folate, but both are large capsules

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Vitamin D needs to be optimal with Hashimoto’s

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/286...

Vitamin D deficiency is frequent in Hashimoto's thyroiditis and treatment of patients with this condition with Vitamin D may slow down the course of development of hypothyroidism and also decrease cardiovascular risks in these patients. Vitamin D measurement and replacement may be critical in these patients.

endocrine-abstracts.org/ea/...

Evidence of a link between increased level of antithyroid antibodies in hypothyroid patients with HT and 25OHD3 deficiency may suggest that this group is particularly prone to the vitamin D deficiency and can benefit from its alignment.
