Hi all....does anyone know if Thyroid S (NDT) can be frozen to preserve them?

Have recently started dosing with Thyroid S having purchased a large amount which I do not think I will use by the sell by date. So in order to preserve them I thought about freezing them as I had read some where that this was possible. Thing is the article I read was for another brand of NDT that was suitable for freezing so don't if freezing is suitable for Thyroid S.

Does anyone know if the use by date can be prolonged by freezing NDT

many thanks

I've kept thyroid hormones in the freezer and I regretted it. They have to be kept absolutely bone dry, but every time someone opens a freezer door condensation settles on the things inside.

If you put thyroid hormones inside a sealed plastic box you get condensation on the contents when you open the box. And the thing which destroys thyroid hormones is moisture.

I would suggest keeping them in the dark in the coolest room in your house.

Mine is in an air tight container.

Coolest room in the house......my house id like a sweat box when summer comes and freezing in winter so did not give any thought to having to look for cold spots until now with weather getting warmer.

Did condensation settle on outside of container? Say a glass container. Would this affect contents inside? I'll have to do an experiment because its either freezer then, or loose them cos they will reach the expiry date and be of no use.

If the expiry date is to be believed it is nov 2022....???

thanks humanbeing have a rewarding evening

Well, they'll be usable long after that date. A couple of years, at least. They don't immediately go off on 31st October 2022. Just make sure you use your NDT in chronological order. :)

From what I have read you need to seal them completely air tight, so if they're in a glass container you'd have to decant them into something smaller. When removing them from the freezer they can deteriorate quickly so you only remove a small amount at a time - no more than one month. So if they're in a large container the best thing - if you want to freeze some of them - is to portion them up into an amount for one month, make that as airtight as possible and then just take that one month out when needed.

DO NOT FREEZE!!!!!

As soon as you take them out they start to deteriorate FAST.

Do not even keep them in your fridge as it is possible they will get frozen in there as well, all depends where you place them and some ignoramus in your family is bound to put them in the icecube section when there's otherwise not enough room for their tubs of yoghurt!

You may possibly get away with it if you take out only a week's supply at a time but be prepared to start to take increasing amounts of the NDT if you try to do that to retain your health.

How fast it deteriorates whilst still in the freezer or when taken out is anybody's guess.

I remember years ago being told you could freeze NDT, divide up into little plastic seal bags a weeks worth in each bag, just take out a week at a time. The little self seal bags keep condensation out. As i went onto t3 only fairly quickly i have no idea if it works. However most ndt says to keep cool temp not over 25 degrees not sure if it has lower limit. I remember few years back people saying ndt was weaker during the heatwave, so i always wondered if the heat deteriorated them. Sorry my answer not much use.

Re the heatwave: our body works harder and uses more of certain chemicals in the body. Some people take more T3 (quarter of a pill) depending on the season and where they live. A little like weight gain we’d use more if we put a substantial amount of weight on. That is probably not the correct anology! But I’m trying to say it’s empty the NDT that is affected (unless stored incorrectly) but the way we react in our surrounding circumstances.

Before I started using Thyroid S myself, I had one of my dogs on it. ... The bottle of 1,000 that I bought well over a year ago, is still working just fine for her. I would NOT freeze Thyroid S. It should be shelf-stable well past the best-by date. ... Just a note: .. If you have Thyroid S treasure it, as I have been told by my usual supplier that the manufacturer may quit making it.

I’ve always frozen Thyroid S. I put in the bottle it comes with as that has a drying agent in but I take out 2x 50 as that would last me 2 months and put them in the very small Tupperware containers. Been doing this for 5 years and no issues. My panic at the moment is I could do with re-ordering but the last I’ve heard they weren’t posting any out!
