Hi there I’ve had hypothyroidism for 3 years now , I’m now on 100mg Levothyroxine and in June I started getting palpitations so eventually had an ecg which showed extra beats , doctor says it’s nothing to worry about but past week I’ve had extremely severe ones which hurt my chest and it’s been giving me a spasm like feeling in my neck and head very tight feeling and feeling very dizzy, I’ve been to a and e and they said my heart is fine and won’t give me anything for them, I can’t carry on like this , does anyone know if it’s related to hypothyroidism? I also have muscle cramps and sore heads back yet my blood test has came back fine for my thyroid,

If you are getting severe symptoms especially dizziness you need to be referred to cardiology for more testing. I was getting 1000s of ectopics every day which were causing pre syncope, I’m now on meds and have a pacemaker. Drs are all to quick to say these are not serious and don’t cause any problems but you need to be sure.
How long have you been on 100mcg
Which brand of levothyroxine are you taking
Do you always get same brand

If vitamin D tablets these need to be taken at least 4 hours away from levothyroxine
Test twice yearly when supplementing
Can test via NHS private testing service

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

But improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.
Update, I have an appointment for a transthoratic echo for these horrible palpitations, hopefully get to the bottom of what’s causing them to make me so dizzy and feel like blood is rushing to my head , I will look at getting these vitamins also , thank u for being so helpful, on holiday in the sun atm sorry for late reply
Could be
Low magnesium - are you now taking separate magnesium supplement afternoon or bedtime. At least 4 hours away from levothyroxine
Low iron - get full iron panel test is ferritin is low
Low thyroid hormone level - test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3
Next step get thyroid and vitamin testing
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

If ferritin is below 50 get a full iron panel test for anaemia
Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test
If taking any iron supplements stop 5-7 days before testing
retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing iron
It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Low thyroid levels can cause ectopic heart beats
How much do you weigh in kilo
Yes it may be nothing. Non thyroidal illness (colds and other infections) can bring on this symptom as well as changes in dosage of thyroid hormones and necessary (needed but not yet applied) changes in dosage of thyroid hormones.
As a long-standing undiagnosed thyroid patient with heart issues, I have found that doctors have less than no idea of the connections between heart and thyroid. It’s pretty shocking their ignorance. Many patients with no heart issues come to the same conclusion.
So unfortunately if this keeps bothering you, you must keep bothering your doctor too. As ‘they’ did not seem to be able to help, I just went on dealing with it by myself for years. I feel such a fool. I believed them and honestly I knew better.
Doctors do really need to get a grip on the ‘real’ story of hypothyroidism.
Just read your post and wonder if you have tried magnesium for palpitations? My daughter (who has a normal thyroid) suffered a while with these and, like you, was investigated and told her heart was fine. She then took a magnesium supplement (about 300 mg I believe) daily and they soon went away. Coffee can also be a factor for some people. Be careful about type of magnesium and I believe magnesium glycinate, taurate or malate are the ones to use and definitely not magnesium oxide. A quick Google or YouTube search will confirm.
