I have just been prescribed NDT to be taken 1 grain 3 times a day at 7am,12pm and 4pm. I am making the switch from 150 T4 (Levo) & 20 T3 (Lio) a day to the above.
Does anyone who has any experience with this have any thoughts or suggestions on this new plan? Also should I drop the 20 T3 all together or stay on it till I 'adjust' to the NDT?
Thank you!

3 grains of NDT would be approx equal to 300mcg of levothyroxine. I think it will be impossible to take a dose exactly at the times stated, bearing in mind our stomach has to be completely empty before and afterwards to avoid interference in the uptake of T3.
I think the doctor would expect you to be on NDT alone (it contains all of the hormones a healthy gland would do, i.e. T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin).
I shall give you a link from an Adviser to TUK (now deceased) which you will find helpful. He, himself, took one daily dose (150mcg of T3). The three links within the following will be helpful. He also prescribed NDT but T3 to his patients who were Thyroid Hormone Resistant.
Hi Shaws, thank you for your reply, it is indeed very helpful!
I have read Dr. Lowe before I believe but on another website where he answered individual questions.
These were my thoughts exactly with the uptake - I have also been able to take 50mcg of T3 in one go with no adverse effects. It was actually suggested on here at one point that I may be Thyroid Hormone Resistant, but how does one verify this?
I understand that NDT contains all the hormones. I have tried to get on with it before around four years ago after I was first diagnosed but found I was still very symptomatic and the pills made me nauseous. That was Natur-thyroid and I have been prescribed ERFA this time so I am hoping to have a better response, though the nausea is back full force! It was at that stage that I went on T3 only and now I wonder if the two combined may be a better fit for me? Especially as I seem to show signs of THR?
Three grains of NDT should have a little more T3 in than you take now, though your overall hormone dose will be about the same. Most grains are the approximate equivalent to 65-68mcg of T4 including the T3. You may feel better as a result of the additional hormones in NDT which seem to do me more good than T3 only.
T3 is supposed to be about three times stronger than T4 though I find I need less than 3 grains (or equivalent glandular) to feel better than three 25mcg of T3. The other hormones fix my skin issues, which has been marvellous! 😁 Hope it works as well for you!
There’s a page on one of the US thyroid websites stating the dosage of different brands of NDT, but I can’t remember which one, or find it from my phone.
