Phoenix Pathology is now working with Thyroid UK providing thyroid and nutritional tests at affordable prices.

You can self-refer for blood tests provided you give them your GP details. Your report will go to your email and also your GP. Alternatively, if you do not wish your own GP to receive your reports, you must pay £20 for their private GP to interpret your results and provide a follow up when required.

Until the end of April phlebotomy will be free (usually an additional £30).

They are open Monday to Friday 08:00 – 20:00 and you will be seen by a nurse for your blood collection promptly. There is no need to book an appointment. You will be asked to complete a self referral form on arrival and you need to mention Thyroid UK. They also offer great refreshments for your convenience.

For more information go to: thyroiduk.org/tuk/testing/p...

Thyroid UK receives a donation for each test obtained.

A pity it's in London - unless one happens to live there!

Still it sounds like a good service

This post says that phlebotomy is free until the end of April.

Your link says that phlebotomy is free until the end of February, which is already history.

Confusing!

They have extended the time and it will be changed on our website soon.

Thank you Lyn,

Presumably they would accept a blood draw done by a peripatetic nurse rather than at Phoenix? Getting to London for 8am would be difficult unless you lived there.

However, I am close enough to have an early blood draw at home and then take the sample personally to Pheonix within around three hours of the draw (on a day I was already going to London).

One thing that often puzzles me about companies offering blood tests is that many of the tests can and should be carried out by the NHS as routine.

Therefore, I wonder if these companies should be concentrating on those that are more obscure (e.g. Active B12) and those that the NHS refuses to carry out (e.g. FT3)?

Or is it to do with the way in which everything works together that they need to be tested at the same time?

Just curious!

Just realised that this means Phoenix would have to post out the paraphenalia for the blood draw so that would increase costs.

The idea is that this is a walk in service and you get your results very quickly (within four hours) by email. I don't think they would accept blood drawn other than on their premises.

I think there are a few walk in clinics in London now but I don't think they do thyroid testing.

Generally, it's best to have all thyroid tests done at the same time as the TSH can vary throughout the day.

Thanks Lyn for the clarification - I might be able to stay o/n at a friend's the night before should I decide to go down this route. Useful to know.

We thought that this might help some people living in London who could pop in during their time off and get a quick response. We do advertise the labs that we work with because they give us a donation for each test people purchased (such as Blue Horizon) and this really helps us support people such as this online community.
