Please can you post the ranges for each of these results, without them comment is difficult.
"Satisfactory" isn't a satisfactory analysis I'm afraid....having all the numbers to hand will enable members to offer detailed information.
Thank you for replying but that the only thing he sent me just received this from November blood test .
Found range of last doctor bloods only got serum TSH level 0.06 mu/l (0.35-4.7) and serum free T4 level 20 pmol/L (7.8_21 that was from 1/08/2019 hope this helps .
No guarantee that those two sets of results were done by the same laboratory. And, if they were done by a different laboratory, the ranges are more than likely going to be different. Because they vary from lab to lab. We need the ranges that went with those results. I don't know why endos do this! But, you could probably get the ranges if you rang his secretary. Otherwise, there's not much anyone can say, I'm afraid.
Hello Linda
A fully functioning working thyroid would be supporting you on a daily basis with approximately 100 T4 + 10 T3.
Can you tell us what thyroid hormone replacement you are taking ?
If just on monotherapy with Levothyroxine, this is T4 and your body needs to be able to convert T4 into T3 which is the active hormone that the body runs on. I read T3 is about 4 times more powerful than T4. with the average person using up about 50 T3 a day.
We need to see both T3 and T4 blood tests results along with the ranges to see how well your body is converting the Levothyroxine into the T3 - Liothyronine.
If your vitamins and minerals are not optimal, especially ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D your conversion of T4 into T3 can be compromised, so these also need to be tested.
If your doctor will not help you with these blood tests there are private companies that many of us on here use, and can be found on the Thyroid uk website. There is one company currently running a discounted ThyroidUltraVit blood test which covers all the tests that we ask for and if you wish, they can come to your house to draw your blood.
Some people can get by on T4 medication alone, some people at some point in time stop converting the T4 into T3 and some people simply need both these thyroid hormones dosed and monitored independently to bring them into balance and to a level of well being accepted to the patient.
There is amazing help on this website but you do need to give the relevant information so people more able than me can give considered opinion.
Hello pennyannie am on Levothyroxine 100mg only B12 179pmol/L 115.00-1000.00pmol/L, serum ferritin 50 ug/L take 1 ferrous fumarate 210mg for 3 months , serum folate 6.4 ug/L ,serum calcium 2.44 mmol/L 2.20-2.60mmol/L will not do vitamin D ,test said they don't need to thank you for your help .
Well I'm not the best person to advise you on vitamins and minerals and unfortunately these results aren't complete anyway.
Your B12 is 64 points into a range of 885 so that's about 7% :
Your ferritin needs to be up and over 80/90 : so that's about 50% :
Folate appears low - no range :
Calcium appears midway : I have no knowledge on this one :
Vitamin D - no result :
I'm sorry but these results are not good and you must be feeling very unwell.
I had a similar problem with my vitamins and minerals and my doctor wasn't helpful at all. I took advice from this website and purchased the vitamins and minerals myself and slowly turned things around for myself.
I totally agree pennyannie; I only started to feel better when both my thyroid medication & key vitamins were optimal (after first testing on Medichecks & following advice from forum members).
Thank you for all your help I will start buying my own Dr is no help feeling a bit low 😞
I know, I'm sorry, I've been there myself :
Could you see a different doctor ?
They all go by my consultant they do my blood then ask him if to up my tablets or lower them , get their in the end with a little bit of help just like to say thank you all
Hey there Linda
Just another thought,
With a T4 of 15 and a T3 of 4.4 : you are converting the Levothyroxine into T3 :
Your conversion ratio is good at 1/ 3.4 : and read most people feel well with a ratio between :- 1/3.5 and 1/ 4.5 with the majority of people feeling well at around a1/4 ratio.
You simply divide the T3 result into the T4 result to find the ratio :
I know we don't have the ranges but have seen most ranges for T4 between 12-22 and most ranges for T3 between 3.1-6.8 :
So, if we guess and take these as an example you are nowhere near the top of either range and most people need to be in the upper quadrants of the range to be well.
Can you ask for an increase in Levothyroxine just 25mcg daily and then wait 6 weeks and then ask for a further blood test to see if your numbers have moved up the ranges a little, and you feel slightly better.
This process can be repeated every 6 weeks until your T4 gets to around 20/21 and your T3 in the high 5s low 6s.
Obviously your vitamins and minerals need working on as well and would think your doctor must step in with these and also action a vitamin D blood test.
Thank you so much for your help will ask Dr for a increase in my Levothyroxine he will not do a vitamin D test already ask he only do the ones I have put down I will have to do them myself.
OK then rewind and check out the private blood companies as mentioned in my first reply yesterday, and then we have the full results and something to work from and advise accordingly.
Yes I will never done this before be back in touch with you, I have other health conditions chronic kidney disease, arthritis at top of spine to the bottom in my hip and knee, multi polyps in my stomach, planter fasciitis in both heels, carpal tunnel in right, had TT for cancer ,on boarder line for osteoporosis, red eye episcleritis, think I am costing my Dr to much money for regular check ups thank you so much for your help and time will be back in touch with you when I get results .
That's fine.
When you are ready start a new post with the results and ranges and give a brief history of your situation if there isn't information on your profile page (can't remember ) !!.
Well yes, sadly we all seem to start off having to pay to get the appropriate blood tests and remember being very nervous myself.
I arranged for a nurse to visit me at home as I wasn't confident driving my car anymore, and the thought of having to be somewhere at a certain time in rural Cornwall and relying on a 2 hourly bus service was all too stressful.
I do still use the bus but now have the option of my little car for the many places that are not served by the rural bus service.
I know it's all a bit daunting and thought the same about my having cost my doctor too much money as I too seemed to be being refused everything when no definitive answers were forthcoming from the referrals she had organised.
P.S. Your B12 is very low - I think your doctor must do something about this, does the print out of these results you have suggest supplementing ?
I live in a rural area if you don't mind me asking how much is it for private bloods I understand if you don't want to say.
Well you need to check out the 2 main companies on the Thyroid uk website :-
I use Medichecks as Blue Horizon, the other recommended company, doesn't cover Cornwall.
I think it costs an extra £30, but as there's a discount currently on, in total I paid just under £120.
I spent over 2 years building up my vitamins and minerals :
Supplementing them myself :
I now do this set of bloods yearly as more of a maintenance MOT as I am much improved :
Thank you will try and find them.
