I have under active thyroid, diagnosed about 4 years ago and on 100mg throxine. I regularly, still feel tired, no energy or motivation although I am told all levels are normal. Which include b12 and other similar reasons to feel my energy is low. I wanted to get some private blood work done, and some support from private health - been advised on the forum before that my b12 was low but not low enough for injections hence why dr said they are fine. I have simply health cover through my employer which covers ‘finding out what’s wrong’ I’m in Kent.

So are you wanting to know which test to go for? A full thyroid/vitamin panel is always a good place to start. We have a couple of recommended labs who do this test:

Both tests include the full thyroid and vitamin panel. They are basically the same test but with the following small differences:

For the fingerprick test:

Blue Horizon requires 1 x microtainer of blood (0.8ml), Medichecks requires 2 x microtainers (total 1.6ml)

Blue Horizon includes Total T4 (can be useful but not essential). Medichecks doesn't include this test.

B12 - Blue Horizon does Total B12 which measures bound and unbound (active) B12 but doesn't give a separate result for each. Medichecks does Active B12.

Total B12 shows the total B12 in the blood. Active B12 shows what's available to be taken up by the cells. You can have a reasonable level of Total B12 but a poor level of Active B12. (Personally, I would go for the Active B12 test.)

It might be best to post your results - including the reference ranges - on the forum before arranging to see a private doctor, we can comment and very often we can point you in the right direction as many doctors don't have enough understanding of hypothyroidism and many people are disappointed in the private consultations.
