medichecks private blood test

I paid medichecks for a private blood test a couple of months ago. I have today received a bill for the private blood test from the NHS. So basically being charged twice. Does anyone know if that’s right? I wasn’t aware that NHS would charge me on top of medichecks?

That sounds very odd. Did you have a blood draw at an NHS clinic? My blood draws are done like this but I pay £30 in advance to Medichecks.

What was on the invoice from the NHS?

seems very odd

Medichecks or Blue Horizon or Monitor My Health…..you pay as you order test online

So it’s impossible to just receive a bill “out the blue”

Monitor My Health Is private NHS test service

Is this the company you mean

I definitely used and paid medichecks. But now I have a bill from the nhs health board as well 💁 only ever had 1 lot of private tests so not sure why I am being charged twice it seems

Something dodgy as the NHS phlebotomist won't do a draw unless proof of payment is with the test kit?

Hi Goinginsane1,

Did you get the blood draw done at an NHS blood clinic?

I've asked before when I've been getting bloods taken for hospital requested tests; they said they wouldn't be allowed to take blood for private tests just ones requested at the hospital.

We also have to go to a different clinic to get GP requested ones done; they won't do them at the hospital blood clinic.

Hope you find out what's happened?

there’s a slip in the Medichecks pack for the nhs phlebotomist to claim from Medichecks. If they didn’t do that, it’s their error. Query with the hospital and if nec Medichecks. However, ifyou didn’t pay the £30 for the blood draw, when you bought your pack, then the nhs won’t have had the slip, nor got their money back, hence contacting you for payment.

Yes - I had to pay before they would take my blood - a proceedure that I was afraid would take beyond the 9 am point that our tests are best taken by. But it was only £20 or £25 - nowhere near the price of the Medichecks or any other firm's tests.

Some hospitals will take your blood for free (sometimes it depends on your relationship to the hospital). I am a patient at the hospital and phoned them in advance but the information I received was confusing, so I was a little "criminalised" while waiting for my test. I'm afraid it's something we have to budget for on top of the private cost. This wouldn't happen if our GPs would accept all the various tests we need for a proper diagnosis because we wouldn't then be treated as "private patients".

I recently had a Medicheck blood test . The online system allowed me the choice of paying £30 ( which was paid online at the time of purchase in addition to the test cost ) for blood to be drawn at a clinic I selected from the list . The box Medicheck sent me subsequently with the test kit had the paperwork confirming to the clinic I had paid (The clinic was the specific nhs trust shown on the drop down list of partners on their ;Medicheck website and selected by me)

Infact they had a sign saying Medicheck tests were done in the clinic .

I started to explain to the nurse about having a private test but she said they did a lot and knew what to do and I would not need to pay anymore than the £30 fee already paid directly to Medicheck .

Note I did not just go to my local nhs trust as that was not on the list of approved partners.
