High prolactin level, anyone have any advice?

Hi I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice please.

I had a baby 7 months ago by planned C section and after 6 months of having my baby I still hadn't had a period so I went to see my GP. I had a blood test beginning of January and he phoned me to say he needed to refer me to an Endocrinologist because my Serum prolactin level (XAELX) is high at 1703 mu/L and my Serum free T4 level (XaERr) is low at 8.1 pmol/L.

The earliest appointment with an Endocrinologist I could get isn't until the end of March and the waiting game is driving me crazy and I'm concerned because it is so high it maybe getting worse with time. Over the last few months I have started producing milk even though I didn't breastfeed and have had headaches recently.

My GP advised me to get an eye test which I have done and thankfully that was all fine.

I'm wondering whether to try and go private if I can but I think it is going to be expensive and my GP thinks I will need an MRI scan, which I expect will be another long waiting list.

I'm getting really stressed out worrying that it maybe getting worse leaving this. I'm feeling exhausted but thought this was due to being a new mum and not having much sleep and a poor diet.

If anyone has any advice or been through anything similar and could share it with me then it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Your GP should be able to expedite the appointment for you, the other option is to ring the Endo's secretary & say that you will take a cancellation appointment. It is worth getting an eye test where they do a visual fields test. High prolactin levels can be due to a benign pituitary tumour, this is usually treated with meds to shrink the tumour.
