Interesting .....lactose, mannitol and acacia free
Which was very much behind my asking if anyone has seen it!
Interested where do you get the info from regarding them being licensed in Uk? I’m still struggling getting lactose and mannitol free levothyroxine, if I could give the doctor a name that’s licensed in UK I might get somewhere
Follow the link in my original post.
That is to the Patient Information Leafet on the MHRA's website - who are the people who issue licences.
The MHRA have a Products website:
Within that, I typed "KAPPLER" and got the Patient Information Leafet, the Summary of Product Characteristics document and the Public Assessment Report.
PAR- mhraproductsprod.blob.core....
SPC - mhraproductsprod.blob.core....
PIL - mhraproductsprod.blob.core....
The SPC contains this:
8 MARKETING AUTHORISATION NUMBER(S) PL 22363/0016
9 DATE OF FIRST AUTHORISATION/RENEWAL OF THE AUTHORISATION 08/07/2019
Trouble is, having a licence is absolutely no guarantee that anyone imports or distributes the product.
helvella many thyroid meds have corn /potato starch in them too that many don't do well with them . It would be nice to have these fillers omitted from the thyroid meds too . It would be Great if you can have your input on the US side too .
For Kappler levothyroxine, it says:
The other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, maize starch, heavy magnesium oxide, sodium starch glycolate type A and magnesium stearate
I think that sodium starch glycolate type A is derived from potatoes.
Difficulty is that the ingredients have to come from somewhere.
Interestingly, the PIL also says:
Levothyroxine Kappler contains sodium
This medicine contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per tablet, that is to say essentially ‘sodium-free'
I don't remember seeing that on any other UK PILs. It should help to re-assure those who have been told to have a low sodium diet but then were prescribed levothyroxine sodium. (Other makes will having varying levels of sodium from the non-levothyroxine ingredients but still likely to be very low.)
helvella I venture to say that most probably the ones who put together the ingredients in our thyroid meds are not dosing with them themselves . What a different thyroid meds it would be if thyroid patients would be putting the ingredients together. Patients know *Best* what is good/works and does not .
I did raise that as a question/thread a while back - asking for suggestions!
I apologize . I must have missed it . But I fully support all your wonderful and Great Valuable work and time you devote to our in betterments . May your success be our success universally .
Thank You .
No apology needed - far too many posts for anyone to take them all in.
This was the thread: healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
Thanks for posting helvella. Interesting to read they contain heavy magnesium oxide and glycolate!! Don't think I have seen them mentioned before.
I have to keep away from acacia powder but my Sigma Pharma liothyronine does contain mannitol and I understand that is a problem for some people.
Hi Helvella,
No, sorry I haven't heard of them before.Do they only come in 100mcg tablets?
In that case they wouldn't be prescribed for me anyway, as I take 75mcg, usually 3 x 25mcg Wokhart, though they did try to give me 1 x 75mcg Teva once,as they are the only makers (as far as I know) of 75mcg Thyroxine.
Needless to say they didn't agree with me, so I got the Wockhart 3 x 25mcg put on my prescription, so they can't try and do that again!
Not seen it. I worked in a pharmacy until last year, never came across it🤷♀️
