Has ERFA been reformulated, can anyone suggest an NDT that they are benefiting from please?

Hi everyone

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. I just wanted to ask if anyone has experienced zero improvement in their help whilst on ERFA and levothyroxine combination. Could it be that ERFA has been reformed. Is there another NDT that might be best to try with out it being reformulated? Your help would be appreciated.. I’ve put on a stone in a month and feel so unwell!

Best wishes for the New Year to all.

Poonam

You need to get FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing

As per my reply to previous post, vitamins need to be optimal

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

What vitamin supplements do you currently take

Are you on strictly gluten free diet

I’ve just looked at your previous post and wondered the same thing. I responded well to getting my vits etc optimal but it can take time to get it sorted depending how low things turn out to be. Again something that takes time to reverse but well worth the effort. Plus you can’t do it with multi Vits but need to address each in turn and get all optimal, not just in range. Once optimal you may be able to find a maintenance dose to keep it there. Ask your doctor to test Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin and post results for advice. I found two very low but once where they should be itcwas like a light had been switched on. It doesn’t happen overnight but well worth the effort.

ERFA was changed a couple of years ago, and no longer worked well for many of us.

I was doing really well on ERFA until about 10 weeks ago when i started feeling ill again after a new batch. Not sure what is happening to ERFA - maybe it’s me maybe it’s the ERFA. I have increased my ERFA dose and continue also with my Levothyroxine as well.

Stop the Thyroid Madness has the following comment about Erfa

stopthethyroidmadness.com/a... (scroll down)

CANADA’S “THYROID” aka ERFA, formerly by Pfizer and is now by Erfa. Note: beginning around May 2014 and continuing to today, many patients have reported Erfa was now causing a return of hypothyroid symptoms. Erfa denies a change, but there are too many negative reports from some patients now to think there hasn’t been a change, somehow.

Then it links to the following article:

Yes Erfa used to be good but since they moved countries it nose dived. Many people reported swinging between hyper and hypo symptoms. I found it great before they moved then nose diced too. Id change ndt!

What to recommend is hard as so many ndts have gone south in the last few years. Theres a shortage of pigs thyroids too which isnt helping.

Im currently on Acella NP but that has been reported in the USA as having changed too & people are reporting symptoms. Im not sure what to suggest as Naturethroid went through a bad patch too. Sorry am not much help! Lol...

I have been on TR Man from Thailand and have to say it’s been the most consistent

Do you have a good stock, it's no longer being produced. Thyroid-S is now the only Thai NDT left.

Oh heck. I’ve got about 600

Jodypody profile image

I’ve got 5 months worth. Turns out it’s to do with Swine flu

SeasideSusie profile image
SeasideSusieRemembering in reply toJodypody

The shortage is possibly due to swine flu and shortage of raw materials. As far as TR Man and Thiroyd are concerned, it's been said that the Thai government want NDT to be licensed and that the manufacturers don't want to, I expect it's an expensive process. However, it's all conjecture, nothing confirmed other than both TR and Thiroyd stopped production earlier in 2019.

I suspect it is because of African swine fever virus rather than swine flu. Vast numbers of pigs have died in China and nearby countries.

I think there’s a shortage of Tr Mann too.. how much do you take in a daily basis and how please JodyPody?

Thanks

I take 3.5 grains in the morning

TR Man & Thyroid S have stopped production. They were going to have to re-register with their body -US & have decided to not to. The thinking is that theyve sold out to big pharma..... no idea if that is true. Saw some Thyroid S online but they want over $300!

The options have narrowed down loads. I never got on with the synthetic thyroid hormomes even when Liothyronine was added in but I may have no choice at this rate.....

Its all extrememly worrying. 😩

Sorry to be so gloomy on New Years Eve!!!

Hello wavylines..from what i heard is tr man and thyroyd are not making anymore but thyroid-s is just out of stock from high demand since its the last one available and prices are way up from it ...im not sure how accurate this is ..after trman and thyroyd stopped production prices went way up..i got mine luckily right before the spike 2 bottles

waveylines

Ah yes youre right Netty. Sorry for the mis-infomation. I got confused with the names....lol. I couldnt believe the price......more expensive than Armour now!!

I get my nhs on a green script so need to find something that a uk pharmacy stock or can get. Id heard that adding sugar and/or a bit of T3 works.

Happy New Year!!! Lets hope the 20's brings a fresh surge of good ndts!! 😏😉 well I can hope!
