I talked with IBSA manufacturer and they seemed enthusiastic about their liquid gel levothyroxine capsules. Most EU countries presently have it Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Norway, etc. I find it weird the UK market has not been penetrated yet I did hear them say UK is coming up in the product market availability. I do know they seemed more inclined to be headed into going towards sales in Australia and Canada. The US had Tirosint for over 10 years. I hope this gives people an idea of Tirosint availability, and I can say the people at IBSA are extremely helpful.
Tirosint availability! UK not yet! : I talked... - Thyroid UK
Tirosint availability! UK not yet!
In the UK Tirosint is available via Roseway Labs.
Rosewaylabs is not a legitimate and official company selling IBSA tirosint. I would not buy from them because IBSA doesn’t distribute into the UK. At some point tirosint will be available in the UK.
That's an odd thing to say. What you mean by 'not an official compnay'? They are a registered pharamcy, so why would they not be able to buy in medications from outside the UK to sell to UK customers, just like they can with other non-UK thyroid medicines such as Nature-throid or Erfa?
Official company that they distribute a product licensed to distribute tirosint. Tirosint is labeled as one of their non licensed products which it means their not an official distributor or seller of tirosint.
No, you're misinterpreting the term 'licensed'. Maybe it means something different in your country. But in the UK non-licensed just means it's not been granted a license by the MHRA, most likely because IBSA haven't yet applied for one. That's nothing to do with Roseway or any other pharmacy. No NDTS are licensed in the UK either, but lots of people get them prescribed and obtain them through the usual pharmacies.
A little different I suppose hormones are not regulated as in the states but I understand the difference it sounds like the unregistered medication or hormones are not tightly enforced.
Thyroid hormones are prescription only medicines in the UK just as they are in the US. But our docs can prescribe any non-UK licensed thyroid meds if they want, and a phamacy can get them in for us. As long as the patient is happy to pay for them of course.
If IBSA want to get their meds into the UK, they just need to apply to the MHRA for a license and take it from there.
Thank you. I am sure that IBSA would like to see it available in the UK. But how many doctors would feel comfortable prescribing Tirosint at a significant cost when levothyroxine tablets are so inexpensive? We already see patients having great difficulty in getting the expensive liquid levothyroxine products. I suspect that will ensure Tirosint would only have a very small market. Sadly.
IBSA manufacturer company sounded enthusiastic about their tirosint availability in the UK. If it is sold and available in the rest of Europe, it will be a matter of time. I know the IBSA representative said they’re focused on Australia, Canada and UK to get their product in these countries especially Australia.
Hopefully all this craziness by the UK government and the NHS will be sorted out soon and maybe an inquiry into why more treatment and medication choices are not available in the UK yet. But yes hopefully Tirosint and others like Armour Thyroid will become more available here in the UK. One can only hope.
Don't hold your breath!
Hello StitchFairy I know right especially the state of our NHS which is crumbling and the government who are unfortunately utterly clueless. Thing is it’s not the GP’s or doctors or specialists who are to blame but the boss’s at the top of the NHS and CCG’s who ignore us and instead put cost before patient safety .
hey
Roseway labs and PHARMACIERGE in the uk do via private prescription.
And there are some pharmacies that should order it in with NHS prescription and a special form filled out for unlicensed medications but pharmacists aren't willing to offer it due to extra paperwork 🙄 And having to import it.
Im trying to get it due to having an allergic reaction to other brands of levothyroxine due to fillers. Will update you if i manage to get it via nhs as per the MHRA Guidance Note 14 - The supply of unlicensed medicinal products (“specials”) paragraph 2.2 it should be prescribed if there is a special individual need for it.
Hope that helps. 😊
Hi, just wondering if you managed to get tirosint through nhs?
hey i did via a nhs pharmacy who works with clinigen. You have to get you GP to fill out clinigen special/clinical need forms. I tried various brands of levothyroxine and liquid version all of which did not agree with me. So had no choice in the end. It was a push with my GP. Eventually got it. But i think there are some stock issues atm. Hope that helps.
