So this just happened about 1 minute after taking my thyroxine.
I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t take any more thyroxine as I seem to remember pharmacist advising when pregnant with my son. Is this correct? I’m really concerned it’ll cause a miscarriage if I’ve not absorbed any.
The pharmacist a few years ago also said I could eat a cracker or something before if it helped rather than on a completely empty stomach.
I’m thinking I’ll have to switch to taking it around 10pm when I generally feel a bit better.
I’m also wondering if you can get coated thyroxine tablets as part of the problem is that they stick in my throat going down. Is this possible?
Does anybody have any advice? I feel quite upset and stressed about it all!

I think I would be inclined to take another tablet, as if it was only a minute, you cannot have absorbed any but maybe call your GP for advice. Also definitely change to night time dosing and many people prefer it anyway.
I suggest you take your thyroxine at night just as you retire, so long as it is a couple of hours minimum after eating. Many people take it at night and find it is more effective. A few find it keeps them awake, but the vast majority benefit from increased absorption and more effective treatment. But for you, while you have morning sickness, it is much the best solution. You might even find it easier to manage and decide to stick with it. I know I certainly do.
Oh how I sympathise, but don't get upset...stress is the worst thing for the thyroid/pregnancy as I'm sure you know. If it was me, I'd take them in the evening, or at any time in the day when you generally feel at your best, then stick to that time. It doesn't really matter when you take them, as long as you take away from food and milky drinks, as usual.
When swallowing your tablets, make sure you have plenty of water/favourite juice at hand, and keep your chin in...as we do when eating food...don't throw your head back to swallow, as I used to do, for reasons I can't explain😳. If you already do this, then try not to worry or think about the tablets getting stuck, because it seems to tighten the throat. We all swallow much larger things than those tiny tablets without issue, but I used to have the same problem. Now I take so many vitamins and minerals every day, along with six thyroid pills, and I'm fine. Of course I don't have the dreaded morning sickness...I hope that passes soon.
Good luck, and I hope you have a lovely Christmas🎄and a very joyful New Year🎉 x
Thank you- I tried your tip about tucking the chin in and it really helped- maybe where I’ve been going wrong and it sticks in the back of my throat. I’m also taking with a small amount of cracker first to help the nausea. Taking in the evening has been better so far so fingers crossed it turns out ok this time. I have an endocrine referral in a week or so too.
I'm so glad it was helpful...it was for me too, when one of my daughters pointed it out...as I was choking and gagging on my meds!😂 Good luck with your endo referral...I hope it goes well for you.
It is recommended that we take levo with one full glass of water on an empty stomach and wait one hour before eating.
If you vomit early a.m. maybe taking your dose at bedtime, with one full glass of water, might be more tolerable.
You have my complete sympathy as I was always nauseous when pregnant, night and day and was miserable and ill. p.s. I wasn't hypo at that time thank goodness.
Thanks, I’ve been really dreading taking my Levo which hasn’t helped but I feel like it’s going to be lots better to take around 10pm at night when I generally feel better.
