Hi all,

Quick question? Can you take Kalms the tablets with thyroid medication and beta blockers? Curious before I buy some?

The main ingredient of Kalms is listed as Valerian Root Extract ad they're supposed to be taken before bedtime. I don't know for sure, but as far as I'm aware, they shouldn't cause a problem with your other medications, as long as you're not also taking those at the same time of day. If you're in any doubt though, I suggest having a chat with a knowledgeable pharmacist.

I not medically qualified but I would think that by taking beta-blockers (for a fast heartbeat(?) you shouldn't need Kalms.

It’s for my stress levels and I can’t sleep well, the doctor won’t prescribe sleeping tablets

I am really sorry you are also having trouble sleeping. Has your GP given you a full blood test for your thyroid hormones? Probably not - but I wonder if you are converting levothyroxine into sufficient T3. He should test both FT4 and FT3 and if deficient should increase your dose. Some of us don't have a sufficient dose if the doctor only takes notice of the TSH - which is from the pituitary gland and I doubt they're aware of that. we need an optimum dose which relieves our clinical symptoms.

Looking at previous posts...you have Graves' disease

What are your most recent Thyroid and vitamin test results?

Anxiety could be due to still being hyperthyroid or your dose might need adjusting if you are now hypothyroid

Low FT3 or low vitamin D can cause insomnia

What are your most recent vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels.

What vitamin supplements do you currently take?

Hi my most recent thyroid results I just got last week over the phone. My consultant said I should take 10mg carbizmole instead of the 15mg I was taking b4 hand. For vitamins I take a a dissolvable multi vitamin tablet.

I work nightshift and currently in bed trying to sleep for hours, I’m back in work tonight for another 8hr hope I sleep

Treat yourself to full Thyroid and vitamin testing in New Year

Multivitamins are not usually recommended on here. Too little of what we do need plus usually cheap and poorly absorbed ingredients

Stop multivitamins a week before any blood tests

Trying strictly gluten free diet helps thousands with Hashimoto's and Graves' disease

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal

While still eating high gluten diet ask GP for coeliac blood test first or buy test online for under £20, just to rule it out first

Assuming test is negative you can immediately go on strictly gluten free diet

(If test is positive you will need to remain on high gluten diet until endoscopy, maximum 6 weeks wait officially)

Trying gluten free diet for 3-6 months. If no noticeable improvement then reintroduce gluten and see if symptoms get worse
