Low Estrogen?

Hello please could someone point me in the right direction of where to post this? Hypothyroid patient/still not feeling well/unable to conceive. Doctor said I’m in normal range but looking at the ranges I think I’m very low in oestradiol. Could this explain why I feel about 100? It’s connected because it can be caused by adrenal glands. I also think the pituitary gland is involved too. Thankyou in advance XX

What day was the blood drawn, estrogen does go low at points in the cycle so depends when this was taken? The pregnancy hormone is progesterone, you need it to get pregnant and stay pregnant, and it often goes low in thyroid patients. Optimally treating your thyroid does often help to balance the hormones.

Thankyou for your quick response. It was taken 7 days before my period starts I think. I believe that’s the Luteal phase. I’m just thinking maybe I need to up my easteogen but I don’t think there’s any way that I can really. Sometimes knowing what the problem is is a bit frustrating because you can’t do anything about it! Thanks girlscout2 x

Luteal phase is after ovulation so days 14 to 28, so yes day 21 is luteal. Did they test your prog?

No problem, I'm no expert by any means and am struggling with my hormones now as I head into very early peri, so seeing a fab gynae, and am on HRT (even though I'm not in meno, and still having regular periods) as just couldn't hack the symptoms any more. I have the opposite problem, waaaay too much estrogen and not enough prog.

There are things you can do to help balance your hormones and increase levels without HRT, I quite like Lara Briden if you've come across her site and work? larabriden.com/category/thy...

It's worth genning up on the menstrual cycle (women's health care is very badly understood and women don't really understand their own bodies) but to get pregnant you need progesterone, prog gets the womb ready to implant an egg, and it's dropping prog when you don't have a fertilised egg that month that triggers the period, if you get pregnant prog goes right up and stays up through pregnancy.

But us thyroid ladies often have terrible problems with progesterone, because we're not optimally treated for thyroid. In your shoes I'd say your first job is to sort your thyroid out, this will be a boring and frustrating job as it means you have to learn more about it than your doctor, and then nudge your doctor to do what you need, it shouldn't be this way, but alas it is.

If you are really stuck, I'd say go and see a gynae who is switched on, I've got a very good one but Harley St prices (thyroid issues mean you go broke quite rapidly too!). There are some very good gynaes out there who really care about women, you'd want to find one who understands the link between thyroid and sex hormones, rather than one too quick to pump you full of a gruelling regime of fertility treatment (which is incredibly hard on the body).

Hope that helps.
