Look up blepharitis.

This seemed to be one of many skin related hypo symptoms. Lanolin ointment & extra D3 may help. Maybe try NDT.

I wonder if you've a sensitivity to the fillers/binders in your thyroid hormones?

Maybe try taking one antihistamine tablet one hour before your next dose, and if it helps ask for another prescription for a different levo.

Thanks shaw ... have changed brands before and taking antihistamines.. just seen GP again (new one) and he says to stop Levo for a week to see how I feel ... will keep you updated 😊

Your results show you were very UNDER medicated and in need of dose increase in Levothyroxine

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Standard starter dose is 50mcg Levothyroxine.

To have been left on 25mcg Levo for months is ridiculous

Strongly recommend you get FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing privately

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

For thyroid including antibodies and vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

The aim of Levothyroxine is to increase the dose slowly in 25mcg steps upwards until TSH is under 2 (many need TSH significantly under one) and most important is that FT4 in top third of range and FT3 at least half way in range

NHS guidelines on Levothyroxine including that most patients eventually need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg Levothyroxine.

Thank you slow dragon and I have said this to different GP’s and they have all said my thyroid is now showing ok and I don’t need an increase ...

I have been using celluvisc for dry eyes and wondering if I’m having an allergic reaction to it. So from today I’m not using it to see if it is the problem.

Will update ...

I want to thank you for your support and help 😊

Just to say :- please ensure that whatever eye preparations you use that they are preservative free :

GP's are absolutely clueless about how to monitor and treat hypothyroidism

Once on Levothyroxine, our own thyroid output is reduced. (As shown by the fact TSH reduces)

So dose of Levothyroxine has to be increased slowly in 25mcg steps upwards until full replacement dose

That is, on average 1.6mcg per kilo of your weight

NICE guidelines

cks.nice.org.uk/hypothyroid...

The initial recommended dose is:

For most people: 50–100 micrograms once daily, preferably taken at least 30 minutes before breakfast, caffeine-containing liquids (such as coffee or tea), or other drugs.

This should be adjusted in increments of 25–50 micrograms every 3–4 weeks according to response. The usual maintenance dose is 100–200 micrograms once daily.

New NICE guidelines

nice.org.uk/guidance/ng145/...

1.3.6 Consider starting levothyroxine at a dosage of 1.6 micrograms per kilogram of body weight per day (rounded to the nearest 25 micrograms) for adults under 65 with primary hypothyroidism and no history of cardiovascular disease.

Levothyroxine does not "top up" our own thyroid production. It replaces it

Post from yesterday where member was left on 50mcg far too long

Shows just how inadequate testing of just TSH is and why assuming just testing TSH within range is WRONG

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

She was forced, like thousands, to get full Thyroid testing privately

TSH 2.81 mIU/L (Range: 0.27 - 4.2)

Free T3 3.34 pmol/L (Range: 3.1 - 6.8)

Free Thyroxine 13.300 pmol/L (Range: 12 - 22)

Her FT4 is only 13% through range

(should be at least 70% through range)

FT3 only 6.5% through range

(should be at least 50% through range as absolute minimum)

Helpful calculator for working out % through range

I suddenly developed blepharitis, and I don't know if this is what you have, but you may find Blephasol lotion very helpful anyway...it's excellent for cleaning sensitive eyes. I very suddenly had a painful eye and it turned out to be a cyst under the eyelid. I have always had quite sensitive eyes, but had never had anything like it before...it was awful.

My local Pharmacist recommended the Blephasol lotion and I use it all the time now. It's quite expensive, so I use a cotton bud to apply twice a day and it lasts much longer. The buds also make it easy to clean along the lash line, and to gently massage the eyelid. I also occasionally use their wipes, but mainly for for travelling, as again, they're expensive, and I don't really like using wipes. I had lost almost all my upper lashes too...so annoying. I hope things improve for you soon. x

I have blephasol eye cleaner and then I’m using Vaseline as my eyelids are very dry ... I never heard of the lotion so I may try that.. thank you 😊

Horrible, isn't it? I can't use Vaseline - makes it worse for me, so I use coconut oil.

Oh no! That's awful...at least you've found the cause. Better late than never! I hope they'll clear up quickly now. Thanks for replying and your kind wishes...I'm very well and enjoying the warm weather😎 I hope you are too☀️ x

Ouch, that looks sore. I'd see your GP or optician. I started getting blepharitis and recurrent eye infections after becoming hypothyroid. I used the expensive eyes wash and heat pack but my GP said user dilute baby shampoo. It works really well, just need to wash the eye for 1 whole minute is dilute baby shampoo twice a day every day. A reusable heat mask for the eyes is about £20 and relieves swelling from infection. But do check with a medic in case it's some other problem.
